I think you've hit the nail on the head by asking this under diabetes - there are lots of medical conditions that kids can develop, including diabetes, that might be picked up early in a medical check up - the sooner you're diagnosed with something the sooner you get better - esp. important for kids as we don't want them to feel sick! Guess it's also to look out for other issues like child abuse, but guess main reason is just to check they are growing normally and are healthy.

to make sure that they are growing properly. Also, if there is a family history of illness or disease in the family their doctor can periodically test for those.

To ensure they are developing physically and mentally as they should be. IE are they growing, are they learning etc.
