I received a phone call today regarding my pap smear results, the nurse told me something about a typical cell and I need to have another test done and depending on the results I might need to have a HPV test. She also mentioned something about high risk and low risk.

Read and do some research on the virus...most of the time your body fights off the virus. It surpresses it...
For your papsmear to come out abnormal indicates that they found some abnormal cells in your cervix and there fore will do a biopsy to see how severe it is.

HPV at the moment has been talked about a lot.
The four major strands are (low Risk 6 and 11) which cause 90% genital warts and High Risk strands 16 and 18 which cause 70% of Cervical Cancer. Some women get both Genital warts and abnormalities of the cervix and some don't.

As long as you stick with your pap smears and follow your doctors instructions you'll be fine.
I was diagnosed last year in October and only had one re-occurance...it's been 3 months and have not had another one.
I exercise and eat right. Take mulitvitamins and herbal pills for my immune system. I don't smoke and drink very rarely.
My doctor said that mostlikely my body will fight it off.

75% of people have it and don't even know it...men are mostly carriers and only 1% of them will have Genital Warts and some are so small you can't even see them.

The Vaccine Gardasil will protect against these 4 major strands...but there are over 300 strands that most physicians don't know about. If you have 1 strand you can still get the vaccine to protect against the other 3.

You might want to talk to your provider about that.

Check out these websites...www.hpvandhealth.com and webmd.com
good luck! =)
You'll be just fine!

I am so sorry for your resent diagnosis.

This link will help you understand cell changes of the cervix.

At this moment there is no cure for HPV. They are over 100 HPV types. Warts that affect the hand and feet take 70 of these types. 30 HPV types affect the genital area. These 30 types are divided into two categories high risk HPV types the HPV types that are found in cancers and low risk HPV types these types may cause an outward visual wart of the genitals these HPV types are not found in cancer.

Our HPV test www.thehpvtest.com looks for 13 high risk HPV types.

There is a vaccine available for women 9 to 26. The vaccine is most affect when given before any sexual exposure but can be given to women up to age 26 that have had genital warts or an infection of the cervix. The vaccine is not a treatment for HPV types that we have already acquire, but it will prevent those not already acquire. The HPV vaccine only prevents 4 HPV types. Two low risk HPV types 6 and 11 and two high risk HPV types. www.gardasil.com

We do not have a vaccine that will protect us from all 15 or so high risk HPV types. Researchers are working to provide us with a vaccine that will help prevent HPV infections and will provide protection from cancer to those of us who have already acquire the virus. Unfortunately all this is years away.

Treatment and screening provide a pretty good plan for preventing an HPV protection from progressing to a cancer.

no cure for hpv, but now there is prevention available in the form of vaccines. I doubt they will be able to cure hpv, anymore than they have been able to cure hiv. Or any virus for that matter.
