I have been coughing persistently for about 3 months now and its not stopping. In most cases mucus comes up when I cough. I went to go see a doctor about 2 weeks ago and had a chest x-ray done. The x-ray came out good and she said i was in good shape. She prescribed me some antibiotics which ive gone through and they didnt really help. Im 17 years old and i dont smoke. Do i have chronic bronchitis?

I was in a similar situation with a chronic cough that would not go away with treatment. My doctor kept giving me antibiotics and I kept getting worse until I finally had a near-fatal asthma attack. Turns out I was allergic to my moldy home and had to move before I got better. Go to a pulmonary (lung) specialist or to a hospital clinic and explain your situation. Whether you have asthma, chronic bronchitis, or pneumonia, you have been sick a long time and you're probably not going to get better without some treatment. Good luck.

I once suffered from Chronic Bronchitis. I would suffer sometimes 3 to 4 times per year! Usually when there was a major change in the pressure outside (I live in the north, and the temperature spikes and dips do wonders to chronic sufferers of bronchitis!). Each time I would get horrible hacking coughs, hoarking up green phlegm..it was so frustrating!

The key to getting rid of your bronchitis is to find a way to completely eliminate the germs that are causing all the phlegm and irritation leading to your hoarking cough and heavy breathing. Keep reading to learn how to do kill these germs!!

Doctors like to have specific defintions before they can say that a certain disease in present in someone.

For CHRONIC BRONCHITIS, a person has to have "productive cough" for "at least 3 months" in "at least 2 consecutive months".

Productive cough means cough with sputum/phlegm (mucus). You are having it and you are having it for 3 months. And even though you are not a smoker, you could be having it.

Why didn't you ask your doctor when s/he saw you? Chronic Bronchitis does not necessarily bring X-ray changes. But you'll have to trust in your doctor.

You obviously have bronchitis now, but the term chronic refers to the case when you have long periods of bronchitis for three years in a row. Do take good care of yourself. God Bless.
