My baby is one year old and into everything, I need to find a way of having the door open in the summer without her falling out of it or crawling though it, whatever I put in the gap, she is likely to lean on or pull. Are there any purpose made products, a stair gate is too narrow? Keeping the door shut all summer is not an option as it is the only ventilation in the room

There seems to be only 2 options for you.

The expensive option is having a storm door installed and using the screen to allow air circulations while keeping your baby safe.

The less expensive way is to have a baby door barrier. They use it to keep babies in or out of rooms. They also use it for dogs sometimes. I provided a link to one below.

Firstly make sure the glass itself wont break into sharp bits if run into.

That it has some flax, the floor if soft there ie so wont run into it, fall back and fracture skull, and if it does break either it shatters and stays together or shatters into safe bits.

As for products you need proper products... and think like a baby how you your get past it

you can get stair gates that adapt to fit larger spaces

what about a metal fire surround safety gate? they are reasonably cheap and you can attach them to the wall so no matter how much they are leaned on they will not budge

a piece of wood attached from the outside

i would suggest some razor barbed wire slung along the bottom of the patio doors. when baby tries to exit, he/she will realise that it is not wise to cross the path of the wire or therefore be slightly injured.
