Now she is 19 and has barely half of the hair she had before. Its still long and pretty, just thin. She really cant do anything with it as it falls out fairly easily. Does anyone know how she can regrow her hair or make it stronger at least? Why did her hair get so thin anyways?

There are many reasons that your daughter's hair could be thinning. It could well be a hormonal reason. Women have certain levels of testosterone in their bodies, and sometimes hormonal shifts can create changes in hair...namely, the thinning of hair or hair growth elsewhere on the body. However, it very well could be stress-related or even vitamin overload. Here are few common causes of hair-loss or hair growth in women:

* Physical stress: surgery, illness, anemia, rapid weight change.
* Emotional stress: mental illness, death of a family member.
* Thyroid abnormalities.
* Medications: High does of Vitamin A -- Blood pressure medications -- Gout medications.
* Hormonal causes: pregnancy, birth control pills, menopause.
* Medication - Drugs used to treat cancer, blood thinners, antidepressants and high blood pressure medications, as well as birth control pills and high doses of vitamin A, may cause hair loss.
* Diet - Too little protein and too little iron in your diet can lead to hair loss.
*Stress or illness - You may begin losing hair one to three months after a stressful situation, such as major surgery. High fevers, severe infections or chronic illnesses can result in hair loss.

It can even be due to an underactive thyroid. Help your daughter try to cut down on Vitamin A, which can cause thinning hair or hair loss. Help her establish a healthy routine as to reduce her levels of stress. If she is a vegetarian, then that, too, can affect hair loss since a lack of iron can contribute to the problem. Have her take a checkup with an M.D. to check her iron levels, as well. Good luck:)

There are hormonal imbalances and vitamin deficiencies that can cause thinning of the hair. She should go to her doctor and have a full check up with blood work as well. Also, her diet may be lacking in some specific nutrients, maybe she could get some tips from a nutritionist if her doctor say she is otherwise healthy. Prenatal vitamins that you get over the counter I have heard help your hair grow also.

I noticed that every one had good answers here, and I want to add one also. It is a strong possibility that she could have a yeast infection, because of addiction to sugar, sweets, carbohydrates, breads, pastas, potatoes, etc. as well she has a deficiency in anti-oxidants. I had the same problem where my hair began falling out in quite large amounts. I contacted a Herbalist and he diagnosed me and I came off of sugar and am eating more anti-oxidants, which are mainly berries. The hair stopped falling out in about 4 months and now is regrowing. I am 77 years young. I also use a wonderful shampoo and conditioner which has all natural thickeners in them, by Nick Chavez from Hollywood. If you live in Canada he will be on the Shopping Channel on TV on April 24th this Tuesday and he has some wonderful hair products, or you can go on the website which is below. It could be that she is not eating properly....perhaps a big weight loss,illness or stress. I would suggest using the products by Nioxin. This helps with thin or hair loss. There are shampoos,conditioners and many styling products to use that makes the hair appear fuller. The treatments do cause regrowth of thinning hair. Many salons carry it including Supercuts. It is a little pricey but well worth it.

Here a few simple home remedies which can be tried at home to control hair fall. To treat hair loss apply a little lemon juice with some black tea. Massage well and shampoo.Rub oil into the scalp. Wring out a towel in hot water and wrap it on the head. Keep it on for 15 minutes. Shampoo and dry well. Check out http://usefulinfo-hairloss.blogspot.com/ for more info.

She needs to see her doctor to be tested for a vitamin deficiency. This can cause people to start having thinning hair.

does she straighten her hair alot or use constant heat everyday? that can severely damage the hair. I would go to the doctor though, just to be on the safe side.
