I was talking to some people about what I would like at my wedding , So I came up with the idea of having Hundreds of White Butterflies released when we exit the church , instead of releasing Doves.

Has anyone ever heard of that being done?

If so was it a beautiful sight and was it Expensive?

Or am I just letting my obsession of Butterflies get the best of me ?

I went to a wedding where there were I believe 3 people with boxes of butterflies. They released them and it was really neat looking.

I don't know if I consider a bunch of butterflies flying around 'romantic' though...

I couldn't tell you the price on it....it was a very expensive wedding, so it could have been pricey. However, if you want butterflies, then I say go for it!!

It might seem to you like such a beautiful scene, but in reality, a dove symbolize peace and love. Anyways my point is, butterflies are bugs and I don't know if the visitors will be so comfortable with them compared to birds. It's just likely that more people will like birds than bugs in general, not to bash on your obsession for butterflies. If you really want that to happen though, no one can stop you because it is YOUR wedding. It's a very special day.

I would never use anything live in my wedding, because I've heard many times that the butterflies can suffer in their box or whatever they come in, and more than once I have heard that they arrived dead. People think of them as worthless insects, but why risk killing hundreds of them just for your wedding day? use bubbles instead, less expensive and if you get the "environmentally safe" ones you aren't harming the planet either.

It sounds very very pretty, but.....

would the butterflies fly up into the air and fly away, or fly around at ground level?

If I were a guest, I'd get freaked if they came near me. Then, I'd never forget your wedding, but for the wrong reason.

Some people don't like insects crawling on them, (just giving you something else to consider) But its your day ;)

The most romantic scene at a wedding is when the couple manages to focus on each other and their love exudes so that everyone can feel its intensity. The rest of it is just packaging. Your guests want to see you happy, ecstatic and in love...they also want to eat good. Beyond that, no one but you, your mom and maid of honor will remember the details. Do what you want to make you happy....but dont do it for the guests....do it for each other. Do butterflies make your groom happy?

LOL. I was thinking the same thing as Princess. I would worry about the doves crapping on me or my husband or on the guests. I'm sure butterflies are doable. Maybe check with a wedding planner in your area.

There is a website that is a company that specialises in butterflies like that. Google release butterfly or something.

I haven't heard of it being done and I imagine it would be quite expensive. I am not even sure you could get hundreds of butterflies.

That sounds really nice...I would look it up, It might be a little bit more expensive since I have never seen a white butterfly, but it wouldn't hurt to look it up.
