I need to report my downstairs neighbors for making (or at least smoking) meth in their apartment. So my question is...what do I do? I've talked to a friend that's a police officer and he told me they can't really do anything other than keep an eye on the place. Since I have to live right above it, I'm not willing to just let it go and hope I don't get blown up. If I tell the apartment complex, do they have some type of procedure they follow to deal with meth labs? I want to stay anonymous but I'm sure they'll know it was me that told anyways. What can I do? I don't even feel safe going home at this point and if I do keep it anonymous, how will I know if it's ever been looked into? Any suggestions?

I have considered moving, but my lease isn't up for several months. Is there a way I can legally get out of my lease under these cirumstances?

Is there any way the maintenance guy could go into the apartment when they're not home to check it out? I know the complex can legally go into anyone's apartment at any time. Do you think they would be willing to do that? If it could look like an accidental discovery and not ME reporting it, I'd feel much safer.

Your "friend" doesn't know what he/she is talking about.
Methamphetamine labs are extremely dangerous, hazardous to everybodys' health, and EXPLOSIVE!!! They represent a danger to every community and need to be shutdown as soon as possible everytime!

1) Call the local police/sheriff and tell them what you believe is going on. If for some reason the truth doesn't work, I'd use the idea of calling the fire department for a "smoke investigation" report. You don't want to make up just some weird story because you could actually be charged with making a false report. If possible, try to include a description of any people you have seen going in and out of the apartment as well as vehicle license plates and/or descriptions. Other supporting information includes: the number of visitors they receive daily/weekly, time when somebody is obviously home, what ages are in the apartment, any children - their ages, etc.

2) Call the property owner. If the owner doesn't lose the property - condemned by the city/county/state - once the people are caught, they could lose a lot of money while cleaning and remodeling it afterwards and get a bad reputation in the future that would hurt future leases.

3) If you report the problem to the landlord and they fail to act, you could actually counter any lease violation they claim against you for leaving so soon with the fact that they are allowing a hazardous condition to continue in the community, jeopardizing people health and welfare and tell them juries LOVE those stories.
See if that wakes them up a little! : @ )

4) Start looking for another place. You DO NOT want to be living there anymore; period!!

Take care and stay safe!

Move out if you can. If not, talk to the landlord. Meth is highly corrosive. The process of making it will make the apartment unlivable because it seeps into the walls. It would be in his interest to look into this matter. He might be able to persuade the police to get a court order and to inspect the apartment. Doin't stay there any longer than you can. Living that close to a meth lab can put your health in danger as well as being exposed to people who can be paranoid(caused by using the drug) and dangerous. Where I live the local sheriff's office has a meth unit that focuses on this problem. Find out if there is one near where you live. If you have a lease and you have any supportable evidence or suspicions you should be able to get out of it. At least threaten the landlord with the possibility. This is a health issue.

Some police or sheriff departments have a meth task force designed to deal with issues like this.

Do your neighbors have children? If so, that may give the cops more of a reason to keep a close eye on them.

Do you know your neighbor's name? If so, you can check to see if they have an arrest record by going through the court records at your local courthouse. If you don't know your neighbor's name, you may be able to find it (if it's listed) by visiting your local library and checking a Criss-Cross directory which lists phone numbers by address.

Do you think your neighbor is dealing? If so, the police are even more likely to keep an eye on him. Ultimately, you may have to move. Whatever you do, be very careful. Meth freaks, as I'm sure you know, can be violent and unpredictable.

right this moment force your self to a maned hearth station (which potential firefighters are continuously on the firehouse) and ask to talk to somebody in can charge. tell them each and everything you recognize with regard to the meth lab close to you. do no longer wait yet another minute because of the fact the subject with meth is the poisonous fumes AND at any 2d their meth lab might desire to BLOW UP killing you and inflicting a hearth to neighbor's properties. So right this moment tell the hearth warring parties IN individual (this way no one will hear what you say). depart that construction right this moment and don't pass back till the meth lab is long gone. daily they are engaged on making meth you're in possibility of demise from fumes and/or an explosion! i'm no longer kidding! additionally you may tell the owner what is going on too! overlook with regard to the police. checklist this right this moment on your interior of reach firefighters!

call the police and make a complaint. say you heard someone screaming from there and that you want to be anonymous..but say you are a neighbor. anyway..when you do this the police will come out..and by law have to check the premises to make sure its safe..if its really a lab they'll get busted.

my mom's a detective for the san jose police dept. I actually asked her what her thoughts were on this and she suggested doing this

if the police can't or won't help. you also can call your landlord and tell them you think somethings up. problem with this is they have to give 24 hours notice to come into the place. the lab could easily be moved.

your friend is wrong.

If you call the police and make an anonymous tip that there is an operational meth lab in this building. You can remain anonymous and the police will investigate.

If the people have children call in the department of child welfare because that is child endangerment and they will get involved.

You are not safe because if they are making meth, the fumes from those chemicals are toxic. They can cause brain damage, or worse.

In the area I live any building known to have contained a meth lab is torn down and left to rot rehabilatation of the property is no longer possible at the point when they start cooking it. In fact I think it is now federal law that any building that housed a Meth lab is condemed and demolished, regardless of what the land owner wants.

that's horrible your health IS in risk. I dont' see ANY reason why they won't take action againest illegal activity. That's CRAZY! Forget being just blown up! You are breathing toxic air everyday, it's in your housing, in your clothes, your hair even your DNA, EVERYTHING if they have a meth lab.

talk to the landlord/management and demand new housing so your life isn't in peral for reporting them. They can move you or move out the criminals. Than again maybe they'll be scared to act as well.

It's in your contract to have a habitable dwelling.

Had a similar problem. I got this advice from my local police department and fire department:... when they are smoking it, or you can smell the chemicals, call the fire department and report a suspicious smoke or smell coming from that address.

I had to find out the information the hard way...after the backyard shed my neightbors were cooking in caught fire.

I had told the police/fire dpt. that I'd smelled the burning chemical smoke before and they said I should have called them back when I first smelled the odor (weeks before). They advised me that by calling the fire dept first, the police would automatically become involved if something was found.

You need to think about your safety. What had caught fire next door to me was gasoline or kerosene and fertilizer. I was informed that the smoke was toxic.

Tell the manager and def. report it to the police! I don't know why he said you can't report it meth is terrible for you. Some labs can evacuate entire counties if they are big enough. If it is a lab they might even have to destroy the building because meth is very toxic.
