a verse in the bible says that god made humans from the dirt could that tie in with the fact the earth, all organic compounds and humans are made of carbon? i don't see any reason science and religion can't coexist.

Not saying the bible is literal proof just metaphorical.

That is right. We can say that such religious approximation toward the truth is not misleading within its level of maturity. The Bible is a spiritual path; a Question toward the Answer of what is Life, put in a specific form. Science is a tool of Knowledge. Those who wrote the Bible were wise and good people who would have had nothing against Science.

The only reason they do not coexist is that there had been a political instance in contradicting the church, and many good people were burned or tortured to death during the period the Catholic Church was on power. The Bible and the Catholic Church are two different things. The Catholic Church uses the Bible to manipulate its political existence in society.

Furthermore, we can also say the Catholic Church of that time, used Science to maintain itself on power, as much as it is done in modern states today; of course on a much more sophisticated level. Didn't we have a recent case where politicians threatened scientists to not expose some research concerning Global Warming?

I've thought about that as well. The problem with that is the scientific method can't observe it(obviously) to test it and form a hypothesis about it. The scientific method is intentionally concise in its wording to maintain its objectivity, something alot of believers don't seem to understand. Science and religion can co-exist; science in the science classroom, and religion in the Literature or Biblical studies classroom.

I thought so too. The descriptions in the beginning of the bible fit with the theories of how the solar system formed and evolution. I just think our ancestors didn't understand since they had no science education.
They had no defininition of time, knowledge of space, understanding of the earth processes and/or biology.

Use the Holy Scriptures and be creative. Ask science to explain and find where the ego, superego and id is in out brain.

You're trying to bend science to fit mythology and it just won't work.

The bible also said that men lived to be over 400 years old... but we know now that that is just not possible, be there a god or not.

You are absolutely right. Also confirmed by science is that the universe had a beginning, and that we are all related. You may find this interesting:

Please tell me you are not going to say he made them 6000 years ago??

Evolution would result in gods (if there were to be any) at the end of evolution, not the beginning.
