This is a very interesting question and if they really knew then I might take their point more serious. For example, my point that I always like to point to is this. Millions protested the war in Vietnam and blamed Johnson and Nixon for the war, but it was President Kennedy who sent the troops to Vietnam yet they thought of him as a hero.
Many think this war is crazy, insane, and that we should get our troops the hell out of there. Speak of the devil, I saw a billboard today that disgusted me that had that same message and it asked for donations that to keep the sign on there. Now my question is this, have we come to the point in this nations history that we take for granted the freedoms our government has provided? Have we become so benign to the cry for help that Iraq is pleading for? Have we forgotten that at one time this country was pleading for help from the French, German, Russian, and Poland people from the horrible King George the third help to get our freedom? And they helped! I am beginning to think so and it's a damn shame!!!!
Most people have gotten so wrapped in their own petty idea that just because they got to pay a dollar more in gas. Or that the thought that people who put their lives on the line, went because they were drafted and had no choice but to be there. Let me say this I would gladly pay that extra dollar and would gladly put and lose my life, if necessary in order to free others. Today we focus on such a smaller pictures we seem to be focused just on what we can see not what can be? Here's a famous quote from a German pacifist but it makes a hell of a lot of sense.........
When the came for the communists,
I did not speak, for I was not a communist.
When they came for trade unionist
I did not speak, for I was not a trade unionist.
When the Nazi's came for the Jew's,
I did not speak, for I was not a Jew.
When they came for me,
No one was left to speak.

Wars may make no sense, but then again, what war has the US ever fought that has made any sense? After spending 11 months and 4 days in the hellhole commonly known as Iraq, I have learned first hand that someone has to do it, so ordinary people don't have to. Lives may be lost, but war is not the only thing costing people their lives. We lose more people a year to car wrecks and murders than do in war. I think that people should be grateful and count their blessings, and support the troops 100%. America has always had a love/hate relationship with the military when it comes to war. Let's be grateful we are not living in a 3rd world war torn country, but rather the good old US of A where citizens have the choice of serving or not serving.

As long as there is mankind, there will be wars. Sucks, but that is the way it is. Since the Earth has been created, and mankind lived, there hasn't been a time that there wasn't a battle of some sort.

And with that, as long as there is some solider fighting for his/her country for whatever reason, it gives the nay-sayers a right to protest. For without a solider, that right is taken away. So, really on the grand scheme of things, these protesters don't know what they are talking about! Not saying war is good, but it does have some perks.

Why does a man prohibit abortion when he can't have a baby?

People are weird. Personally I think that they are just afraid the draft might get reinstated and they will have to pay this country back for the bennies they've been getting.

Some people also think that if you "turn the other cheek" the other person will see your nobility and leave you alone. Hey, I believed it until I turned about 4, some people just take longer to figure things out.

When I was a kid it was pretty normal in grade school to get into fights, you know, a black eye, fat lip, skinned knee, no big deal. My grandson came home with a fat lip from fighting (he's 11) in school last week, with a cop! He got a ticket, has 20 hours of community service and has to go to (how we can all get along) class for 4 weeks. This was for fighting back, the other kid that punched him first got a lot more; and their friends! Talk about escalating the situation, they already hate each other now and its only been a week, wait till they're done. We're raising a nation of cowed little boys and girls and growing into a nation of wimps.

how can you support the war when you know nothing about war?

That's kind of a silly question. It's kind of like saying: why do people vote if they're not a politician?

What is it exactly that people don't know about war? How would you have them learn? By personal experience perhaps? Guess what, I don't need to take cyanide to know it kills; I don't need to go to war to know the violence and grotesque suffering it causes just so that a bunch of greedy old men in power can profit.

And, I don't need to rely on TV to show me the horrors the maimed soldiers endure. A few hours at the VA hospital where I volunteer tells me that.

What a lot of people don't know and should is that MANY protestors are "professional" protestors; they are paid by groups that have that interest. So they will be out there one day against the war and another day for a labor union and another day against the G 8, etc etc.

What about war is good. It may be a means to an end, but there is very little good about the whole process. Objecting to death and destruction doesn't require one to know of the specific events so many just protest to end them.

I think it is very reasonable to be against something you have never done. I have never killed anyone or molested any children. I know I am against them.
I also served in the military during wartime. I have had plenty of buddies who have seen time in the war zone. None of them have said to me "I was really against war but now that I've seen it I am all for it."
The question is How can someone be so pro war who has never seen one?

it's a concept called humanitarism. it started around the early 19th century with the socialst movements in europe primarily the french revolution. ever since then there has been a growing movemnet to end petty violence. especially violence motivated by money.

it's a silly concept when you think of human history in retrospect.

but for them, all they now is that war kills, and they are against killing. sorta like a new religion.

an analogy to your question is like saying why do people worship jesus?
