I told my orthodontist whom is also a dentist that i had gone to an orthodontist prior to him and she had told me that i was going to have teeth pulled out. but then i moved which is how i ended up with the orthodontist i have right now and he told me that no teeth need to be pulled out... yet my bottom teeth are very crowded and i even have a short chin... is it because my bottom teeth are crowded? or could it be something else causing my short chin? so should i suggest he pull my teeth out to get rid of my short chin, that is my main concern. oh and i currently only have top braces.

You might have what's called an overbite. It could possibly be corrected by adding rubber bands to your braces, where the bands extend from your front upper teeth toward your back lower teeth, forcing your teeth & chin to be pulled forward.

A short chin would not be caused by crooked or overcrowded teeth. That would just be genetics and bone structure. The possible appearance of a short chin is different and that may be from an extreme overbite. Plus, braces on the top only make your lip stick out more than on the bottom so that could be part of it too. I had a slight overbite from overcrowding of teeth and needed 4 molars pulled before I had my braces. The rubber bands they attached from my top braces to my bottom back teeth helped pull my front teeth back and helped get rid of my overbite. An overbite may be from overcrowding on the top, not from too many teeth on the bottom. I'd assume that would cause an underbite where your chin would possibly look like it stuck out too far. Before my braces, I never looked like I had a 'short chin' though. You could not see my overbite unless I smiled and showed my teeth. When my mouth was closed, things basically looked fine.

People who really have a short chin that is noticeable don't get bottom teeth pulled to make it longer. That doesn't make any sense. They get plastic surgery and get what they call a 'chin implant'. I've seen it on the Discovery Channel. It's strange... I'm in NO way suggesting plastic surgery at this point since this all my be figured out through orthodontics.

You could have an overbite or just crowded teeth, but you should make sure to find out if anything is wrong with your wisdom teeth because that could cause crowded teeth and other things, ask your dentist or orthodontist to check your x-rays. Good Luck !
