I had a lump at the back of my neck too. I
'm not sure if it's like yours but mine, called a "cyst" is formed by having oil trapped in the follicle or somthing which let it to grow. I can move it around that area it doesn't stick on the same position. I got it removed by surgeory.
My opinion is, go see a doctor imediately, so that they can ensure that it's not a sign of cancer.
You probably have alot of stress so try to have lots of water and rest. But you HAVE to go to the doctors ok?
If you're wondering if yours is like mine, here is the description of the lump :
-That area before the lump grew was really itchy and i kept scracthing it.
-The lump is not red, and I think it's the size of one and a half of a dollar coin. (In my country it's quite big, the coin)
- It doesn't hurt when i move it around.
Having it removed beats having a strange looking lump behind my neck. Don't worry, it's probably nothing serious. Good luck!!!

I have a very similar lump. I believe it is an extremely swollen lymph node. I noticed it 2 weeks ago, and am going to go to the doctor this week. Enlargement of a lymph node without an infection (i feel fine otherwise) is a possible symptom of lymphoma, and I am pretty nervous. You should get yours checked out as well. Mine is in the muscle directly next to the spine, maybe around a 1/2 inch wide, making everyone think it is just a muscle knot, but i get the feeling that is not the case. Good luck.

Check this out with a doctor.
You may be feeling a cervical vertebra, or it may be muscle tension, but it might be an AVM (arterial-venous mass) which can be deadly serious.
In an AVM, the arteries and veins leading to and from your brain grew into an abnormal, tangled mass.

If you've had it for years....then your doc must already be aware of this..If not..I would get it checked out just to make sure it is 'nothing'.
It could be a calcium buildup
It could be a tumor
It could be an old injury (bumped your neck/head)
but to make sure it's nothing serious would be a good start* Best wishes*

Could be tension.
Could be a cyst.
Could be a mole.
Not likely to be cancer if you've had it for years.
See your doctor if it worries you.
