it does not damage your abdomen and it most certainly does not affect your fertility. whoever told you that does not know what they're talking about. there are dangers--it can get infected which can get into your bloodstream and lead to serious problems, your body may try to 'reject' the ring and push it to the surface leaving your body slightly disfigured in that reason, and you may form a raised keloid scar where the piercing occurs, plus there's always that chance that you get a disease like HIV or Hepatitis if you don't go to a clean piercing place. it leaves a permanent scar, even if you take it out. that being said, i LOVE mine, i've had it for a couple of years. if you want it and you've thought it out for a long time like you seem to have, then go for it! just make sure you go to a reputable piercing place. have fun!

Yes there are dangers, so definitely do research before you get it done. I doubt it has anything to do with fertility. I can't see how it would affect that. But I know that it can definitely mess you up.
There's serious risk of infection and blood poisoning when you get pierced, so that's something you're going to have to take into account. Definitely go to a reputable place.
You can also be allergic to the metals in the piercing, so make sure you are not allergic, and if you sense anything is wrong, consult a doctor.
Moisture can collect around the area of the belly button so that is prime area for bacterial infection to occur. Clothing may not allow enough airflow through the area for it to heal. Both Clothing and moisture can slow down the healing process.
It is also very painful to get a belly button piercing and you may have trouble sleeping or get it caught on things. Remember, you cannot take it out until it heals.
A belly button piercing is difficult to heal for many reasons. Clothing and sweat can irritate your belly button piercing. Swimming in poorly chlorinated waters can cause infection. Because a navel piercing can take 6 months to a year to heal it is an easy target for re-infection if not properly cared for.
Silver or gold belly button rings can stain the area around your piercing for life.
Definitely talk to the people doing the piercing and ask them questions. They should know the most about what they are doing. If they don't, don't get it pierced there.
In any case, make sure it's something that you want and do more research. Also, make sure you are the appropriate age to do this. I wouldn't advise it if you are under 18. Most places won't do it if you are, but some will if you are 16 or are accompanied by an adult.

If you have your navel pierced at a very clean place, done by people who know what they are doing you should have no problems. It will not effect fertility, it is done on the outside, it isn't effecting anything inside. You do have to be careful to close the ring and not get it caught on anything as you don't want to tear it. You also have to be careful about the materials you use, solid gold, titiam, niobiaum, some people can get away with stainless steel, but not everyone.
I had mine done about 14 years ago and haven't regreted it for a day. I love getting fun new jewelry for my navel. And it looks great with bathiing suits and low cut jeans. And I don't have the flatest stomach, but I still love it.

All that stuff is just b.s. I think getting it infected would be your biggest worry. If it's something you really want, do it! Make sure you don't go somewhere that's all trashy and get quality jewelry and clean it! I got mine done in Oct. and I've had no problems at all and it didn't hurt. Like it stung a little but I have really low pain tolerance. If you really want it, I say go for it! You can always take it out if you change your mind.

Good grief! Who is pressuring you into this and why are you even going along with that pressure? 99% of people will tell you after getting a tattoo that it never hurt. They're full of **** and you can bet your belly button is going to hurt to.
Not to mention the fact that woman with peircings all over look "used" and lose a lot of their beauty in my eyes when they have to pierce, draw, and clothe themselves with the latest in vain stylings.
You'll regret ever having spent money on it and you'll realize down the road how very stupid the whole idea was in the first place.

There are real dangers: You can get an infection and die.
However, not very likely. You'll be fine if you go with someone reputable and safe.
However, I'd leave it alone. It's sexier as is. 99% of women don't look sexier after getting it done.
