I was rear-ended by a drunk driver in May 2005; he hit me, while I was stationary at a red light, going approximately 55-60 mph. Since then, my life has changed drastically.

After an MRI and a slew of other tests, it was shown that I have five herniated discs, one stacked on top of the other, in my lumbar region. The largest bulge was 9 mm into the spinal cord, whereas the other four were at 5 mm. Needless to say, the pain is intense on a 24 hour basis.

My question is this, to all those who have, or are currently suffering with chronic pain, are you tired of doctors treating you like drug addicts looking for your next fix? I know I am. :)

When it comes to doctors these days prescribing any controlled pharmacheutical narcotic drugs (especially opiate based ones for severe pain, such as Oxycontin), they are being closely watched by big brother.

Due to this, doctors are over cautios and reluctant to prescribe such medications, even when 99% of the time the patients need for it is completely legitimate.

If doctors are cought over-prescribing narcotic drugs, or suspected to be doing so, they face harsh consequences such as large fines, jail time, loss of their degree, and job.

Doctors have a very hard time fighting such charges, even when falsely or unjustly accused, because the government is so determined in prosecuting and finding them guilty. Really, the governments behavior when doing this is overkill, and due to that many people legitimately in need of these medications are unfortunately denied.

definately. My husband has spinal injuries from being rear ended while at a stop sigh. Some drs are not like this and he now has a good one. However I have seen many ppl with chronic pain treated very badly. Good News Ministries P O Box 2681 Cleveland GA 30528 is working to help ppl with chronic severe pain get better treatment,

Please if your dr prescribes methadone look for a different dr or a different med and do not just take it. My husband became clinically dead from a reaction to being put from othr pain med to methadone. We were blessed with what the ER drs acknowledged as a miracle but there was serious lasting damage. Just the other day a mom whose son had a similar experience and did not survive posted here. I know at least 3 more ppl who had life threatening experiences from this just in our small town area.

In most states there is a 2 yr statute of limitations for taking legal action against someone who injured you. If you haven't reached a settlement you need to see a lawyer ASAP.

I have lived with chronic pain since I was five years old and now at 48 years I take nothing for pain; However, I do drink Beer occasionally and abused drugs until last year of 2006. I have been drug free ever since.
I like to take it easy and my doctor has offered me pain medicine (hydrocodone), but I refused it.

I would rather self medicate on my Beer and just take it easy in life and thus far all is good.

My tolerance to pain is higher than usual, but in the course of its' nature with a herniated disc and back surgery to boot, I still live my life as normal as I can despite the pain which travels from moderate to severe.

Severe is only when I have had to much mobility for one day.

My life is much better staying off of pain killers and such, but if you must have it by all means take it.
Good Luck

Yes, I am! I am so sick of them trying to talk their way out of writing my prescription saying "I'm too young" to be taking this medicine for this period of time. If I didn't have pain, I would not be taking it. I have multiple issues (Parkinson's disease, fibromyalgia, lots of spine issues and more!). One of the doctors I saw a few years back made me so upset that he made me depressed. I sure wish I didn't have to take the medicine, its not something I look forward at all. I have even tried to go without for long periods of time (and really really suffered). We shouldn't have to suffer. They should realize that quality of life is so much more important than the risk of possibly being addicted.

Check your email.
I don't have herniated disk/s, but have had my fill of 'conventional medicine'! I researche alternative treatments for various spine problems for some friends having such problems, & kept the links, which should be waiting for you in your emailbox. (;

Doctors these days are ??hmm..trying to find a proper word to use.....but yes.....Perhaps looking at your local hospital for a Pain Management specialist to see if they can get you on your way to less pain on a daily basis. They have certain 'blockers' that more or less 'freeze' the area of chronic pain by giving you a needle in that area * Look into it , I think it would be worth your while~ I wish you all the best...GoodLuck*
