I agree with the others that aren't keen on CD favors - I think people stress out too much over picking songs for them, and almost nobody listens to them. It's hard to dictate musical taste, especially for something as personal as a wedding cd. However, on the plus side for you and your guests, CDs are small, thin and easily packable. They're also far less prone to melting like chocolates or candles.
Since you're basically doing a destination wedding, why not combine favor and souveneir for guests? How about a small ornament that can be personalized with your names and wedding date on the back or bottom? Maybe a seashell a lighthouse or even a tiny cruise ship.
I'd also suggest going edible if you can - chocolates, candies, gum, etc. are always a good choice for most any wedding, but you may need something sturdier and less prone to melting. I love the idea of doing Lifesavers for a cruise ship wedding, and who doesn't love lifesavers?

Here's some cute mint tins with a cruise ship:

A luggage tag is also a nice favor. These are a little pricey, but not too bad if you have a limited amount of guests:

Small seashell soaps in a pretty organza bag would also be a nice favor

I think the cutest idea was the life savers candies. As to the cd the comments all make sense. I listen to music, all genres so I think I would at least listen to it once. Then it is a memento. Not listening to it I understand their point I cannot however see myself throwing it away but there are alot of really inconsiderate people in this world. So I guess if the idea is still debateable you may want to think about it otherwise who cares go with your idea if someone doesnt like it too bad make yourself happy and everyone else can follow suit or not.
As for songs I would stick with the oldies but goodies and they dont necessarily have to have a beach/cruise theme:
Anything by the Beach Boys always makes me think of fun sun sand and of course the beach!
Splish Splash-
Aint no mountain high enough(aint no river wide enough(LOL))-
kiss the girl-little mermaid
anything from The grease soundtrack -very popular and lots of fun

You do realize most will throw it away, right? I always do, because I never like the same music that the bride/groom like. If I want to make a CD, I'll make my own.
You might want to re-think that. Keep favors to something that can be eaten, like candy, chocolate, etc. People will eat it right there, and love it. I just hate it when they give out the CD's or photo frames, or whatever, because I hate that I'm going to pitch it as soon as I get home. I feel bad because I know it's another decision the bride totally stressed, and they spent their good, hard earned money on. But not bad enough to have something else cluttering up my already cluttered up house!
Good luck with the wedding!

We did this. We just used the songs that were used during the wedding. Father/Daughter etc.
Some good beach ones would be the beachboys, You could make a whole cd of just them.
Oh You could have The some Crusin' with Hewie Lewis and Gwen.
Its a cute idea. Good luck :)

I received a CD. It was nice, and I liked the songs but I've never listened to it. I don't know why, but I feel a little creepy listening to their wedding CD.
