Gods command was that we have no other God's before Him. If we see our spouse as being more important than God, then yes, we would be idol worshipers. But to love someone is the command of Christ as long as our love for God comes first.

Yes they can be an Idol, I learned this lesson myself with my daughter. She was number one in my life for many years and God was number 2. I didn't think much about it at the time but now, looking back, I see how offensive this was to God.
I had very little money to put in the offering plate on sunday. I would buy my daughter whatever she wanted and then I would pay bills and see if I had much left over for God.
Through changing circumstances God brought me back to reality and I have repented of my behavior. If the person you Love, becomes more important than the God who Loves you;
Yes, I would call that Idolatry.
God Bless You....Peace.

It can become idol worship if you forsake God for her. If you look at Solomon he had 700 wives and 300 concubines. It clearly states that he loved them so much that he started worshiping their gods and built up the high places and made sacrifices to Mo-lech and others.

Yes. Like if God asked you to go to church. And your wife told you not to. Would you stay home for your wife, or would you obey God. If you stay home with your wife & disobey God, God would see it as an idol in your life.

Jesus said we are to love God more than our family. What kjestad wrote.

Jesus does want us to love our family. But God comes first. You can't be a disciple of Christ if it depends on if your family will allow you to be. To be a disciple of Christ, your family may kill you for it. You have to love Christ more.

Sara, having idols is a sin that separate you from the God who created you. Just repent for not believing in Jesus Christ. Read, http://www.fathersloveletter.com .

No, unless you actually believe that your wife is Almighty God. Idolatry is when you reduce God to a material object, and then insist that *all* of God is contained in that object, and that the object is actually God.

The only other form of idolatry addressed in Scripture is desidemonia, or making idols to represent evil forces that you attempt to placate with offerings.

You can't just run out and practice idolatry by accident. It has to be a willful act. Modern interpretations of idolatry are simply attempts to make the many anti-idolatry passages of Scripture applicable to the modern world.

God taught us to love our mate as long as we live and as best we can, NOT to worship them. Anyway, I know of no such couple that does worship each other that has been married more than 2 years. After such time, the puppy unconditional love wears off and reality sets in and it can get ugly!

Anything that takes first place in your life, anything other than God, is an idol. That means anything.

Luke 14:26
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children,and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

Yep. Definitely the first option. That's just one of the many reasons that god makes no sense.
