I'd have to agree with the Roman Catholic philosophy on that one. I've heard others say that the Catholics are ignoring Jesus' "great commission" to go out and spread the good news, however, Jesus was speaking to his disciples. The good news at that time was actually...."News". It's not now. The word has been spread. People are aware of the choices that are out there. So I believe that it is intrusive to knock on someones door with the presumption that that person has been living under a rock their entire life and that you have some new information that will "save" them. If the goal is to emulate Jesus, then lets do that. Jesus didn't go door to door passing out pamphlets and trying to win souls. Jesus lived out his faith and he preached wherever he happened to be. People came to him not the other way around. There may be a lot of problems with the Roman Catholic church, but I believe that this issue isn't one of them.

That's what you think.

As everyone knows, the Catholic Church is based in the Vatican, in Rome.

As it turns out, most pizza delivery guys are at least part Italian, and most are Catholic.

They all report directly to the Vatican, and pizza remains as one of God's greatest gifts to mankind.

One day, all this will finally make sense to you, and then you'll duly present yourself at the nearest Catholic Church, to be welcomed into the true faith.

You probably think I'm kidding ... but don't be too sure.

Look up the info about Tom Monaghan, the founder of Domino's Pizza, on Google.

The reason we Catholics don't preach door to door is that we view evangelization differently than Protestants do. It isn't that we don't want to spread Christianity--it's that we do it through the ministries of Catholic schools, Catholic hospitals, providing for the poor, etc. We realize that missioning involves something deeper than merely going door to door, trying to make converts--it has more to do with showing Christ to the world by living holy lives. Contrary to what many Protestants believe, St. Matthew's "great commission" isn't the only call to ministry in the Bible. St. Luke's idea of missioning is more along the lines of promoting peace and justice, and Catholics tend to evangelize in this way whereas Protestants tend toward Matthew's paradigm. In essence, we want people to know that God loves them, and if God places a desire for conversion in a person's heart, we want he/she to come to the Church of his/her own free will--and we know that high-pressuring people in a door to door manner doesn't do much for helping a person toward a genuine want to convert. I would strongly disagree with those who have asserted here that Catholics deny and disregard biblical commands.

Okay...being a Roman Catholic...we're not like most religious. We rather go out and help the world then try to bother people to join our religion. Honestly we have a lot of people who already believe the same things we do...so why go bother people about it? Not saying we don't want you, but if you want to come to our church then you should come because you want to, not because we want you to.

Don't be surprised, it's just one more example of how the Catholic Church disregards what Jesus really taught his followers to do. Notice some of the Catholic answers explain that they don't want to "bother" people at their homes, which is where Jesus said to go, from house to house, preaching the "good news of the Kingdom". I guess they don't have alot of "good news" to report.

catholics don't do that. if you want to be a catholic, you go to a catholic church. unlike other religions who knock on your door like a salesman and preach to you right in your living room, catholics just wait for you to believe in their beliefs, rather than try to persuade you to join their religion so you can be "saved".

I believe it was St. Francis of Assisi who said the best sermon you can preach is the way you live your life.

Blondiebaptist, we do witness, as evidenced by the amazing Catholic presence on the Internet, EWTN, etc. We just don't feel the need to disturb people in their homes, uninvited.

More importantly, I would like to share with you the Truth about the afterlife. I only tell you this because I care what will happen to you when you die. Have you ever told a lie, stolen anything, used God’s name in vain? These are just a few of God’s Moral Laws. When you die, God will judge you on the basis of His Moral Law. If you stand guilty before God of breaking His Laws, He will send you to Hell. If God is Just and Holy, He must punish lawbreakers. The good news is that God provided a way for you to be forgiven and go to Heaven. Jesus Christ died on a cross and rose again to pay the debt for your sins and take your punishment. What you must do is Repent, which means to say you are sorry to God and turn away from your sins. Then put your complete Trust in Jesus Christ. Only then will you be accepted into Heaven, not because you’re a good person, but because you’re a bad person who’s been forgiven. Please give this some thought. Your Eternal Destination depends on it.
