Ever since I was younger, I've had pretty long hair. I really want to cut it, but my parents won't let me. Is that not ridiculous? It has nothing to do with religion or anything--they're just control freaks.
I've asked nicely and they still say no. They won't even give me a good reason. It's not like I want a mohawk or anything.
After all, it's my hair on my head. I've thought about just going and getting it cut myself [Or cutting it myself], but my parents would be angry. They'd get over it, but last time I got my hair cut [my dad finally gave in], my mom told me she hated me and grounded me for several weeks.
Any advice?

I've tried reasoning with them, but they're the ones being unreasonable. My dad says he won't let me cut it because he likes long hair.
I don't really care if he likes long hair. If he likes long hair, he should grow his hair out.
Oh, and the last time I got a haircut, my mom wouldn't talk to me for a week or so.

Tell them to pick their fights. They're wasting their time arguing over this. Your hair WILL GROW again. To successfully convince your parents, you have to be completely mature in presenting your case. Don't whine. Don't complain. Don't yell. Tell them that it's your own decision and that you've thought about it, and most importantly, emphasize that hair will grow again. I hope they come to their senses. Really, personal freedom to express oneself through speech, arts or appearance is totally essential.. Besides, a haircut is no big deal. They're probably just concerned about other people's opinions.. like other kids' parents might think that you've gone rebelling and hanging out with the wrong crowd, etc. ..good luck :)

Well, you really only have one question to answer. Are you prepared to live with the consequences of doing what mom and dad say you can't do.
You know that is the only decision you have, don't you?
I would say pick a time of your choice, when the consequences will be less of a problem, and do what you want, then live with those consequences as long as you have to to make the grooming choices you want.
Another possibility would be to see a professional counselor who might be able to intercede and show your mom and dad how unreasonable they are being.

I've been there, but fortunately, after some time, they let me get to cut it. My opinion is that you shouldn't go do something like that, because then there'll be this huge argument and you could get grounded and they mightn't want to speak to you for weeks or months. That's just an extreme-ish scenario. They mightn't act like that, but they may to some extent because you went against what they said. Anyway, if you're sure it's something you truly want, go for it, but that's granted that you can deal with them being upset with you for a long time afterward. I wouldn't though, if I were you. Getting your hair cut is not worth your parents being upset with you.

The only way you are not going to cause a problem here is to wait until you are 18 and possibly moved out too then cut your hair b/c you will be an adult and they will have their opinions but not be in charge of your decisions. So until then just keep on asking them but don't cut your hair yourself and don't do it behind their backs unless you are willing to have them be very upset with you...

Do what makes you happy and feel comfortable. Explain to your mom why you want your hair short and that even if she grounds you, you will still cut your hair. It's your hair and you aren't doing anything wrong. Eventually you will be on your own and won't have to worry about it.

Poor you.My daughter wont get a haircut because she wants to grow it long.Cant you compromise and have it shoulder length? There is no good reason why you should not get it cut.Its actually healthy to have it cut.Compromise is the way to go.

My answer is going to depend on how old you are. if you're 17 or older, go for it. it's time for you to start making your own decisions as you will be out of high school soon anyway. If you're younger, listen to you parents unless you feel like being grounded again.

use ur long hair as an advantage like when u reach over something put ur hair in there soup or when u turn around hit them in the face with your hair
do something to irratate them with ur hair till they cant take it
or put gum in it so u have to cut it jk but that might work
