Our "fruit battery" is NOT working!?

We used Bell wire, could this be the problem? We have a zinc screw on one part, a copper penny on the other part with bell wire and aligator clips going from them to the light, what else!?

Do you have the right fruit (citrus) and is it as fresh as you can get?

Light?

You will need a lot of fruit to make an incandescent lamp glow try using a volt meter analog type will work fine
The indicator needle will move dramatically

Make sure the wire does not touch any part of the fruit.
