While it is difficult to see the similarities after veiwing such a horror, there are more similarities than not.
There is a difference between Islam in politics, and Islam of everyday people. I find it the same when observing policies of Israel and Judism.
Although we have the Ten Commandments that read 'thou shalt not kill', as Christians, we do kill in war. Yet there is nothing in the Ten Commandments that says you can kill under certain cicumstances. There is in the bible though. We choose not to be barbaric...for the most part. Those living under fundmentalist regimes do not have a choise. There is no room for concientious objectors. Anyone that disagrees is killed. There are many Moslem people in influencial postions that are speaking out, at the risk of loosing their life.
If you had the opportunity to live in a more diverse society, you would have the chance to see the real Islam. It is equally unfortunate that all they are able to learn about us is what is on their TV. I certainly would not want to be judged by whats in our western media. A good Christian wouldn't do all that's seen on TV, and neither would a good Muslim,Jew, Hindi, Bhuddist etc.. Those that travel the world know there is no difference.
The similarities are so great. All religions teach to honor God, care for your fellow man, and earn the right to be with God after your life on earth is compleat. Those are the basics for all religions (barring the cults of course) It could be agrued that people that kill for anyother reason than dire self defence, are criminaly insane. I have heard Islamic leaders say that the imams creating such mahem suffer from a "mental illness". That takes a lot of courage as they may be killed. I believe it's true as only 24% of the worlds population is totally sane.
I hope this might help you to feel better. It's very hard having to live with such a threat. I have faith that when a certain few politicians are replaced the problems will decrease. In the mean time we try to do good where ever we are.

Actually the Islam God, the Jewish God, and the Christian God are all the same.
Allah, Yahweh, and God are all the same force.
Now that thats out of the way, everyone just interprets the Bible or whatever, differently. If they think something is wrong, then they will change it and start a new religion. Look at Martin Luther, he didn't like Catholiscm, so he created different Christian denominations.
A king of england (I forgot which) wanted to divorce his wife, but the Catholic Church wouldnt let him, so he made his own denomination.
Islamic people think that Muhammed was visited by Gabriel, so they believe in a different version of Christianity.
Basically its all human error. Nobody knows whats REALLY going on, everyone just has their own interpretations.

Religions are a culture's way of explaining the unexplainable.
Since there are SO many cultures on this earth, there are numerous religions. Each culture at one time had something it didn't understand, like the rumbling earth which we now know are not angry gods, but earthquakes. And the list goes on and on.
You dislike what you THINK Muslim extremists believe about heaven, but what makes you think Christianity doesn't have it's mythology?
Bringing back people from the dead? Making the blind see? "Casting out demons." Turning water into wine? Tell me why I should believe those things are true but the Muslim beliefs and all others are untrue?
Take a good look at Christianity with an objective view and you find alllllllllllllll the same kinds of exaggerations, myths, and fables told as any other religion.
They are just ways to explain the unexplainable. Besides, the words of MANY great people are full of wisdom. Why do you worship one but not the other? Why worship ANY of them?
Just listen and read the words regarding how you live your life and you'll be at peace with yourself. Compassion for others and being of service to your fellow human beings is at the root of all religions.

Alla means god in a different language. these people believe in the same god. a few terrorists twist this around to brainwash many young kids into sacrificing themselves for a cause they think is holy. another thing is people will fight if they think there religon is better or the right one. it has happened throughout history and is still happening today. look at the irish the cathlics are fighting with the protestants over whos religon is right. its the same religon! just like Ali (alla) and God.

They are not different Gods, just different interpretations of the aforementioned Supreme Being's message. In fact, Allah is God is God for Jews, Christians, and Muslims, and in fact, the Torah, The Quran, and the Bible are very similar.
Finally, you cannot judge a religion claiming over 1 billion members in nearly every nation of the globe based on a small number of fanatic nutjobs.

Because every last one of them was founded by a man. You can trace the date of every modern religion. The religious historian can date the founder and the beginning. Men found them, men messed it all up.
ANd who is to say which is right or wrong. The Muslims think we are barbaric. With people like you calling others names it will never reach a peaceful conclusion.

If you can get people to believe absurdities you can get them to commit atrocities.
I will say this until I am blue in my face but God has no voice of his own and there in never a shortage of men willing to speak on God's behalf. This is true for all biblical works that claim they are God inspired.

Because religions were created by men who got a little understanding and tried to pass the understanding on. When they did the sheep started to follow the person instead of the message. God is not religious, He created Jesus to bring back reality of a personel relationship with Truth/God. He lived out the Jewish faith as a way to establish the Truth of a personel walk that we were all suppose to have all along. It ain't about a religious reality at all it is about letting God lead you by His Spirit at ALL times. Not through ritual, but by knowing Him......

It is the nature of Human Kind to want power and control. Many religions were invented to control other people, especially women. Men who are unattractive or hopeless tend to seek ways to force women into their power against their will. Many religions are about control. When the founder dies, millions fight to sit on the empty throne. Like what is going on in Iraq.

Some people twist their religion to make it mean what they'd like it to mean. Muslims extremists are not alone in that. Many have been killed in the name of the Christian and Jewish gods as well. The bible itself is full of such stories.
