A deep rich silt loam soil with a lot of organic matter and good drainage.

Depends on the plant.

Some plants like cacti need a very friable soil so water will run through and out the bottom not keeping the roots wet.

Other plants need a peat moss based soil so roots remain moist constantly or almost so.

Tropical plants prefer very peaty soil to keep the plant humid.

Wouldn't that depend on what you are trying to grow? A cactus will not live in moist soil long.
