How about hot dogs or hamburgers with corn on the cob and some fruit. You can also try making hamburger helper. Try to use coupons and stock up on items when they are on sale.

ROFL!!! Where do I sign the petition!! Actually I want to enroll my husband LOL Actually here in Canada there's a show called " The Day the Women went" they take women from a town, mostly mothers with kids, but not necessarily and their other half is supposed to keep up with the household duties-as per instructions of the woman leaving-during that week. It's lots of fun to watch all the men trying to cope with the kids and such LOL I know if I did my husband would have a heart attack!! and he's rather helpful around the house but still has no memory for anything... oh well... In any case, I loved your idea!! I think with minor tweaks here and there we should present it to the networks! It'll be great success!!

Turkey is as cheap as chicken, it's bigger so you'll have leftovers, and it's moister. It may take longer to cook but then you can fix some of the side dishes some of the people mentioned. You can also do a ham. They're large and every body loves a ham sandwich. You can do beef or pork roasts. The options are limitless. I get the feeling that this is a combination of two families as a result of a second marriage. Right?

There are many good, fast, and cheap recipes at this link: http://www.miserlymoms.com/MOMfrecipes1.htm

Myself, I like to make a big pot of veggie soup and serve with some Italian bread and butter. Soup - dice up 1/5 of a small cabbage, 1 large onion, 2-3 carrots, 1 or 2 sweet peppers (I like the red, orange, or yellow ones), 3-4 stalks of celery, maybe some mushrooms and anything else you can think of. Add about a quart of water and bring to a boil. If desired, add some corn or peas or some chopped up fresh spinach. Add two cans of stewed diced tomatoes. Add any spices/herbs you like, and any salt you might want. Add several tablespoons of light olive oil. If you want some meat, add some cooked beef or chicken pieces, some hamburg, some Italian sausage or anything else you like. If you want, you can add some bouillon of appropriate type (veg/chicken/beef). Add more water if needed. If you want to add some starch to this, cook some diced potatoes or turnips in the soup, or add some cooked rice or pasta at the end.

Here you go, Sweetie...sooo easy, inexpensive, and fast to make. Incredibly delicious!!
Just add a green salad and hot garlic bread.

Spaghetti and Italian Sausage
Serves 10-12

I large onion, chopped
6 cloves of fresh garlic, chopped
3 jars of Ragu spaghetti sauce, any flavor (1lb 10oz each)
I package of Sweet Italian Sausage (6 in a package)
1 box of Angel Hair Spaghetti

1. In a large (5 qt) saucepan, add a small amount of oil and saute the onions and garlic only until just soft and tender, not browned.
2. Add the Ragu spaghetti sauce, cover and bring to a simmer.
3. Cut each sausage in half and add to the sauce. Cover and bring back to a simmer. Cook for 20 minutes.

Serve over the cooked Angel Hair spaghetti.

Veggie beef soup:

Start with cooked grounded beef in a large pot. Add a can (not drained) of each : Green beans, carrots, peas, veg-all, corn, 1/2 of a large can of V8 tomato or vegetable juice, stewed tomatoes (a jar of canned tomatoes from the garden is good too) cut up. If you need to make more add 2 cans of each veggie to make it last. Hope this helps ya out...

I am in the same boat. Big Lots sell alot of cabinet foods for half the price. I usually go there and stock up before I go to the grocery store. It cuts my bill by 75%. You can find alot of pasta and sauces there.

You can also sign up for food asistance if you have kids under the age of 5 at the link below.

I also make my own pizzas. Sourdough English Muffins, spagetti sause and shredded cheese. You can make alot at a cheap price.

Pasta and rice variations could also be a huge help. My family loved "beef and noodles" made with just hamburger (you could also cheat some and use some ground turkey in with the hamburger) and those wide egg-noodles, I would use the housebrand gravy mix to make the gravy...MMMM
Really...any kind of soup or stew over rice or pasta will help to increase the volume of the food.....without breaking your budget. My family also loves biscuits and gravy...smiling really ANYthing over biscuits....they sure eat it up!!!! I use the housebrand biscuits in the can to save time and clean-up.

Rice is cheap. You can get a 10 lb bag for about $4. Get canned veggies. Frozen is more expensive and doesnt last as long. Buy flower and baking soda. You can make pan cakes, bread, cake. Its cheaper to make your own, then buying those premix rip offs. Buy generic.

Good for you that you have found ways that don't invovle fast food! But, you can rely on Pizza once a week. Try to find a pizza place around you that has some kind of deal going on like a "buy one large pizza, get 1 free." =)

Also you can have "soup & sandwiches" every once in a while. Soup is not costly and depending on what you get for the sandwich content, it's not costly either.
