First things first, I am a Polytheist Pagan.
Ouija boards are not scary but the use of a Ouija board potentially open up some lower astral havoc to those present. Personally I don't fear them but I prefer the pendulum or Tarot.
For those who want to trek into the realms with a Ouija board, I do suggest a few things.
1. A well protected sacred space. Use protection rituals according to your particular faith or tradition.
2. An open and vigilant mind. Your may be trying to contact a deceased loved one but lower astral lifeforms may assume the likeness who you seek and exploit your energies.
3. The knowledge that the power is within you. Don't appreciate the sensations you're getting? Firmly command the spirit to leave. They can only harm you if you leave yourself too open. Think of it as a rude guest: Would you ask the rude one in question to leave? I would most certainly.
These tips also good for other methods of spirit contact e.g. automatic writing, automatic drawing and trance medium-ship.
Remember, you're contacting them, requesting their presence: you're in control as the user of the Ouija board.
Final hint: If your energy levels are waning during the session, STOP IMMEDIATELY! Command all spirits to leave and cleanse the sacred space. Finally ground, cleanse and re-energise yourself according to your faith or tradition.
Thanks for reading. Blessed Be.

I don't fear it because I don't honestly believe it works though it still creeps me out a little bit because I thought they were 'real' when I was a little kid.

Anyone that is actually afraid of one is usually a religious person who believes it 'works' for some reason and that the only reason it works is because 'evil' spirits/the devil is controlling the board. They really think that you are conjuring evil spirits. I suppose it's superstition relating to magic since magic is 'from Satan' or something. I don't fully understand the reasoning behind thinking that only evil spirits contact the living, never good ones. At any rate, believing that a Parker Brothers board game is actually a way to conjure any spirit at all is somewhat ridiculous in itself. I know some people have 'homemade' ones but I still don't see why any spirit would be more attracted to a board and planchette rather than any other method.

*My family was Catholic, I grew up without religion and I'm not at all religious today.

I am a christian..and the ouija board is about contacting and getting messages from so called dead people. The Bible is very clear on death and where dead people are..and there is no way that this ouija board stuff is evil. Satans bib lie was and always will be..'you shall not surely die'..God says we will die..satan is evil..and this is another one of his little 'fun things' that try to teach people that noone will die..which is a lie.
We are warned to stay away from all things...however many choose to do it.
I went to a psychic church once with a friend...the feeling I got when I walked in that room..when I heard these people talking was something I had never felt before..it must have been the feeling of evil. When they told me a dead relative wanted to talk to me, well that's the last they saw of me.

I do not fear it, it is a tool, like any tool it can be used for positive or negative.

People as a whole tend to fear those things that they do not understand. They also tend to fear those things people around them fear. It maybe that they believe enough in the spirit world to think they would be answered but in their heart they don't want to hear the answers they might receive.

I am a witch with a mixed background in Judaism and Christianity

I am terrified for Ouija boards. I can not really explain why. When I was a kid i used to play with my grandmother's board all of the time, then one day I just could not stand to be near them and have an almost phobia of them. I am Gnostic now, but have been afraid with them through several different religions.

Sounds exciting. only bear in mind which you and your pals are moving the pointer around, not any unseen spirit. the whole gag in the back of the board is that as quickly as you %. some letters, all of you initiate homing in on a similar notice, so it appears that evidently like "some thing" is pushing the pointer around. relatively it is only you and the ideomotor effect. Please do not have faith each and every of the silliness you will hear with regard to the Ouija. it is only human beings thoroughly bamboozled by this little trick and searching for some thing to validate their concept in ghosts and demons.

Christian and no I don't fear it I just wouldn't use it because the word of God says not to associate with such things. If you are talking to a spirit through an Ouija board more than likely it's not one you want to be inviting into your life.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12, many of the practices associated with sorcery are named for us: "Let no one be found among you…who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD…

I am nervous around Ouija Boards because I know a lot of sane, non-religious people who have had really screwy experiences with those things.

I am theistic, in a very general way.

I do not fear the Ouija board. Seems very silly to me that someone would believe that crap. I don't believe people that say they had a horrible experience with it....yeah right, you know your friend pushed it...
