Seneca and spike are you familiar at all with sweat lodges? Are they for purity reasons only or do they hold spiritual purposes as well?

Yes. I'm Catholic and Seneca, one of the Originial "Five Nations" of the Iroquois Nation from Upstate New York. The Original Five Nations are, from East-to-West: Mohawk, Onieda, Onandaga, Cayuga, and Seneca.

By the way, contrary to popular myth, the Europeans did NOT "take everything" from every one of the Native American tribes because the Seneca, and the Navajo in Arizona, have held on to their lands. In fact, because the City of Salamanca, New York is on tribal land, it pays rent to the Seneca.

During the wars between the French, English, and the American Colonists, the Seneca backed the wrong horse. As a result, their villages were burned down by the Americans. However, after the dust settled, the Seneca returned to their lands. What's more, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison were greatly influenced by the democracy of the Seneca and greatly admired them, as well as the other Nations of the "Five Nation".

Also, contrary to the erroneous opinion that the Europeans slaughtered all or most of the Native Americans, it was the contagious diseases that the Europeans brought with them which eliminated 90-99 percent of the Native American populations. In other words, the Europeans did NOT purposely "wipe out" the Native American populations since no one knew at that time about how disease spreads.

What's more to the point: Native Americans did a LOT of warfarring among themselves and, thus, continuously reduced their own populations long before the Europeans sailed in on the Atlantic.

I think they eventually wiped out most of them regardless if they were converted or not and stole their land leaving them with small reserves and casinos. I dont think the remaining ones would be on Yahoo Answers at this peticular time or date to answer your question. If there is forget I said anything...

I hope not.

Christians took everything else from them; I hope their own spirituality survives and prospers.
