Would Jesus Christ have been in favor of capital punishment

I would say not. I believe that Jesus understood that punishment doesn't work. Never has, never will. Capital punishment only removes the offender permanently from the community and makes the victims feel revenged. It does not seem to teach anyone else NOT to do what the offender did. Jesus understood the power of forgiveness.

Jesus would first seek for repentance and forgiveness but if a person refused to turn from their evil ways then God says that they deserve to die.

Ezekiel 18:20 The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.

21 "But if a wicked person turns away from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 22 None of the transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness that he has done he shall live. 23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?

Romans 13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer.

Many so called Christians call for doing away with it but if you studied the text there were over 200 reasons in the Hebrew culture that were worthy of death. The real followers know that we do not judge if you see someone commit the crime you bring about retribution for said crime, IE.. if some individual is caught in act of murdering/killing someone he/she is not being judged here but put to death for their crimes - EVERYONE should remember we follow texts and our lord Jesus Christ has the FINAL JUDGMENT!

I don't know...if you think about it, he himself supposedly came down to Earth for the purpose of being executed, didn't he? So if there wasn't capital punishment, then his destiny wouldn't have been fulfilled.

No. Jesus said in relation to the prostitute who was to be stoned, "Let he who is without sin throw the first stone." All of her accusers left. He then said, where are your accusers now, ...neither do i condemn you. Go and sin no more.
