I wouldn't say prayer was invented. If anything, it was given to us as a means to communicate with God. Maybe, in a way, the Holy Spirit invented it into our minds for us to talk to God.

No one invented prayer. But Adam is the first to do it. Prayer is making conversation with God. Everyone can do it.

Perhaps the first mention of prayer in the Bible:

Genesis 4:25-26

And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.
