Back in the day (500 - 600 years ago) Islamic countries were much more civilized and academically advanced than Europe and certainly North America. They basically founded our alphanumeric system.
In more recent years they have contributed to the growth of the military industrial complex and the growth of companies like Halliburton.

Will identity religion with part of the world, which isn't kosher. Our number system and love for learning that got man through the dark ages, and their basic belief system is beautiful, but parts of it got hijacked greedy fast buck folks.

Oil, but seriously though, they squander those funds. When it runs out expect mass civil war over remaining supplies. I don't think the West will be too nice to them then, so they better start trying to get on our good side or industrialize like the rest of us.

during the period of it's enlightenment (centuries back), it celebrated wisdom, knowledge and the arts. tolerance of other cultures and religions was the norm. unfortunately that all disolved as the religious conservatives gained ever greater influence.
