It is caused from a dry scalp.....

When you are going to bathe him...rub some baby oil into the effected area....wait for 20 minutes or so to let it soften....when you are shampooing it, take a fine tooth comb and gently work at it, it will break up into his hair but the comb will help you to remove it from his hair...depending how dense it is, you might need to repeat. This WILL get rid of it and also moisten his scalp.

This should never make you feel like a bad mom...it is very common occurrence with small children.

Good luck. :)

first of all, you're not a bad mom...this kind of thing happens. my son is a little younger than yours but his doctor suggested this and it worked like a charm. Put baby oil on a toothbrush and gently "brush" where the cradle cap is prior to bath time. you'll probably have to wash his hair a couple of times to get the oil out but it's worth it!!! After a few applications, his cradle cap was gone.
you can buy over the counter shampoos, but they are so harsh and can leave the scalp red and extra sensitive.

It can sometimes be because of washing hair too much. You are not a bad mom, this is a natural condition for young children and babies to get. My son had really bad cradle cap when he was a baby, and here is how I got rid of it. Bath him everyday, put a generous amount of baby oil in the bath, as this will help soften it up, after your boy is dried and dressed, sit him down with you and gently use your fingernails to loosen and remove the scabs from his head. A little bit of baby oil used then will help too.

Don't feel like a bad mom, it is VERY common. Even if you bathe your child every day, it still happens. Don't bother with the stuff that they sell at the salon or store. It is a rip off. Rub some mineral oil on your baby's head. Then use a comb or stiff brush to get the cradle cap off and then wash their hair. If you cannot get mineral oil, you can use baby oil.

There is actually a treatment for cradle cap sold in most stores like (Walmart, Target, Walgreens, Drug Store). It's in a green bottle (I can't remember the exact name) but it has Winnie the Pooh on the front of the bottle. It's called Cradle Cap Treatment (or something like that). You put it on your child's head, then comb through it with a small fine comb. The stuff is really greasy, so you might want to wash your child's hair after using it. I used it for my daughter and within a week her cradle cap was gone and she had it pretty bad. It covered her entire head.

Unless he is playing outside getting totally filthy everyday they do not need to have a bath everynight. Washing his hair so often can cause the irritation. There are shampoos out there for Cradle Cap.

Calm down! It's not a big deal - you aren't a bad mom, your son just has really dry skin. My son is 5 and STILL has what looks like cradle cap on his head. We use t-gel shampoo by Neutrogena, and a soft brush to lather it up on his head. Then we comb it out and the skin usually comes off pretty well (but I won't kid you, not all of it miraculously goes away).

All you can do it just try to keep up with it, take a deep breath and worry about other things!

Cradle Cap is like a baby dandruff. No need to feel like a bab mom......babys get it. The way to avoid craddle cap is simple. All you do is when you wash the baby's hair, you have to comb it. Then you dry it. Once the hair is dry, comb the hair again. This will get rid of it!! Also, it is not good for your hair to wash it every single day.

Cradle cap is usually cause by one of three things:

Dryness
Irritation
Fungus

The first two can generally be fixed by not washing his hair as often. Dryness may require a moisturizer

The third requires an antifungal treatment such as vinegar, dandruff shampoo, or yeast/jock itch/athlete's foot cream.

Also it is very rare for a baby over 6 months who has never had it before to get it.

Try some Baby don't Cry by Paul Mitchell. Use it with a baby brush. When shampoo is in hair use the brush in a circular motion. Repeat it everyday until its gone. Might just want to continue after like once a week to make sure he just doesn't have a dry scalp.
