Nero. It can create a VCD onto a DVD-R or can convert the AVI into DVD format before placing it on a DVD-R.

For DVD Creator tool, i traditionally use Wondershare Video to DVD Burner, which is fast on burning. It often works first-class for me. But it's a shareware. BTW, i am afraid 2 hr 34 min film to DVD Disc is just too long. You'd higher burn it to 2 DVD Discs.

I was going to suggest a free one, but then I noticed on their web site that people were complaining that the DVDs would not work on a home DVD player.

This is the site. Perhaps you can check back on the web site once in awhile to see if they have fixed the problem.

I don't know of any other free DVD authoring programs, but you can always just download and use the trial versions of DVD burning software (until the trial runs out).
Nero 7 Ultra Edition can be used for 30 days with no program restrictions. Cyberlink & InterVideo products might have restrictions (check their web sites).

(Never download the Nero software from their web site. Their file servers run far too slowly.)
