I mean, really, books come out today and no one just believes everything inside them. There is absolutely no proof that the Bible is any different from some modern fiction book.

Closed minds predominate when the religious theory's they ascribe to are threatened. I am a member of our species, but I just fail to understand why anyone would blindly follow any religious theory. Theory is theory no matter how it's presented. My take on most of our population is their belief that there is power in numbers. Membership in the predominate philosophy creates the illusion of safety and acceptance. Has creative thinking and a secure self image been so threatened that it has become obsolete?

Thats because it's not a fiction book. The Old Testament is the history of the Jewish people, archeology and anthropology verify more of it every day. It can also be cross referenced with other secular book which back up its accounts... The New Testament took place during Roman rule, no one kept better records than the Romans... Not to mention most documents can be dated to within the lifetime of persons that would of remembered events happening so that if something was wrong people would dispute it then and it never would of made it to us. Yes a lot of weird writings were floating around back then claiming to be truth that were left out (many of which you can read online).
Unfortunately there are a lot of people that think it is some sort of book of "magic" and afraid to question any part of it for fear of losing their very soul. It is ok to doubt, ok to ask questions.

Evidently most people do not have the same experience as you. The Bible is the top selling book every year since it has been in print. Every year for the past 200 years plus. If you don't see the spiritual significance or receive any inspiration from it you need to look at it different. Maybe it is more than modern fiction- it is to me.

1: Childhood indoctrination at such an early and impressionable age that the god-concept sinks in so deeply.
2: Thereafter, the god-concept, with its false promise of an after-life (so that no-one actually dies!!!) is such a cosy idea that the afflicted so WANT it to be true that they further convince themselves that it is. Folly?
3: Then there is the threat! Oh, baby! If you don't believe, or even are a bit of a sinner, you will spend FOREVER burning in hell. Wow! We don't want THAT so we'd better just believe. Seems a good idea. Yeah, right!!
4: Lack of an education. Quite clearly, study of anything within the science field will suggest to even the lamest brain in the class that god is imaginary and all the associated claptrap that hangs on the same hook is also sheer nonsense.
5: Ignorance.
6: Failure to allow logic, reason and commen-sense into their lives of fantasy.
7: Stupidity.

Have you seriously considered the reliability of the bible? Ignore for the moment the whole notion of God and just think about the book's content.

Investigation by even the most skeptical will also reveal that there exists NO SINGLE SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY that has been shown to prove error, factually or doctrinally, in the Bible. There is lots of speculation and hypotheses, but not a single verifiable fact. If you or anyone should discover one, you will become quite famous. Yet, since recorded history, no one has offered it up and entered their names into the history books. Instead what we have is pseudo-science pandering to the masses, as in the recent John Cameron tomb of Christ debacle.

As a simple experiment, try turning your objective intellect towards the argument that no book, comprising 66 “mini-books”, written over a period of 1500 years by 40 vastly different authors, having an outstanding literary internal consistency and coherency, could be written by mankind alone. Add to that the survival of the book’s ancient manuscripts, numbering in the tens of thousands, over thousands of years and yet these manuscripts remain over 98% textually pure. How this possible, when compared to all the other ancient writings are so few in number? For instance, the Dead Sea Scrolls contain all books of the Old Testament, except Esther, and have been dated to before the time of Christ. Now consider Julius Caesar’s Gallic Wars. Only ten copies written about 1,000 years after the event are in existence. In comparison, there are over 24,000+ New Testament manuscripts, the earliest one dating to within 24 years after Christ. How can we objectively and rationally explain this book, the Bible, especially in light of the claims I have made above?

There absolutely is proof that the Bible is different than 'some modern fiction book.'

You would not believe what the Bible has been through, and is still intact for us today.

As a matter of fact, it's the oldest 'complete' book there is.

You are incorrect in your statement that “There is absolutely no proof that the Bible is any different from some modern fiction book.” There are over 25,000 extant manuscripts that attest to the wording of the Bible all have been scientifically dated and are all in agreement at the 98.5% level of confidence. (That is for all you scientific types out there).

That the Bible is a non-fiction vs. fictional account is testified by other historic documents and in the New Testament by men who lived with and walked with Jesus writing within 70 years of the event.

Why do I believe what the Bible tells me? Because it is the sole source of objective truth in the world today.

The Bible would not say the international would bring about 2000, that became Y2K and a collection of know-nothings who merely assumed it might take place because of the fact the millenium marker became coming. The Bible additionally would not say that the international will bring about 2012, it is predicated on the Mayan calendar. That calendar runs out in 2012, so clearly a collection of human beings desperate that would desire to propose the international is going to end to. In no place interior the hot testomony does God ask human beings to kill for Him. because of the fact the previous testomony became (in part) written and controlled by making use of the state, i do no longer positioned lots inventory interior the thought that God asked human beings to kill for Him earlier Jesus the two. evaluate this: Is faith (Christianity/God) the reason for the wars or the excuse? Joseph Stalin became an atheist, and he killed thousands and thousands. If faith did no longer exist, human beings would merely arise with yet another reason to kill one yet another.

If you can find it in your heart to understand that the stories of the Bible are allegories. Originally people were not as sophisticated as they are now. Untill a hundred years ago, most people were illiterate so they needed to be told in a way everyone could understand. Now if you refer to fundamental Christians I cannot answer because I'm not one.
The important thing is that it is not compulsory to believe anything.
Could you tell me why does it bother you so much what others believe?
