DUI sentences vary from state to state.

In my state, 1st offense is a fine of $300-$500, a jail sentence of 24 hours to 6 months, mandatory DUI school. Penalties go up for 2nd and 3rd offense. 4th offense becomes a felony with mandatory prison term.

And your car insurance is going way up after just 1 DUI.

Varies by jurisdiction and the subsequent events but a common starting number would be about $2K in court costs plus any attorney fees .

Look in your yellow pages under attorneys and send out a basic letter to a 1/2 doz and ask them .
Also ask them what their fees are .

20 years if you kill a car load of babies. Then you get to hang out with low life's that have no respect for other humans for 10 years until one of the really evil low life's shoves a shiv up along your spine and leaves you numb from the neck down for the rest of your life. but hey, as long as the drunk driver is not unconvinced with others pain and suffering, right?

All too often, the penalty for drinking and driving is death. Either for the drunk or for the innocents he hits.
