Antibiotics, like most medications, are broken down by category. Penicillins are such a category, as are tetracyclines, macrolides, cephalosporins, aminoglycosides, quinolones and sulfa drugs. Clindamycin is it's own category. It has been around a very long time and the drug companies have never added to the class.
