I started bass fishing with ugly sticks back in the 70's and they haven't changed much since then. They are still tough, heavy and lack sensitivity. Just like my ex-wife. Fortunately I got rid of both and found a sleeker more sensitive and productive model. I use Lamiglass rods and find them to be the best rod. I may not need every rod they make, but they make every rod I need. If Skeet Reese uses them they are sure good enough for me.
If you want a quality rod you are going to have to pay more than the price of an Ugly Stick. I am glad I don't have to use them ever again.

A fishing rod is only as good as the person using it, that is how you can land a 70 pound Amberjack on 10 pound test. You can have a bad day or season fishing and blame it on the weather, bait, tide or your tackle but a good fisherman knows it's him...the good and the bad.
I take 4 rods with me when I fish, all different models since I bought them at different stores. I use all kinds of bait from live shrimp to frozen shrimp, live crabs to frozen crabs, squid and cut bait. Do a little research online, practice, and most of all ASK OTHER FISHERMEN. That is how I learned. When I first moved here to Clearwater, Florida from Buffalo, NY I had no idea what I was doing, but I didn't give up, I really liked fishing, but I wasn't catching anything but sunburn. So I would see the same guys down there (St. Pete. Pier) and they ALWAYS caught fish....I watched and learned and guess what?....Now people ask me how I catch so many fish!
And by the way, I have an ugly stick, I have had no problems with it at all, then again, it must be me.
Now go fishing, take your kids and have fun,
Cheers!

Can't be any worse than my $15 flea market special.... the reel on that gave out a while back, but the rod's just fine. (Of course my tournament fishing boss nearly had a sh*t conniption when he found out that I only spent $15 on my rig, and just had to sell me something brand-name...). Not that I don't like my greenwater, but I'm thinking of putting that second abu garcia reel on my $15 pole so I can use it again....
It's not the equipment, it's the person using it. Btw, I've seen a lot of fish caught on cane poles, and I've caught a lot of fish on handline. What works, works.

I think they are a great rod , I have caught several large fish on them. I havent tried to bend one like on tv. But did shut one in a door once and it didnt break.
FYI they are the number one selling fishing rod in the country.

I have over a dozen and am very happy with them! And to answer the question a customer asked do they really bend like in the commercials I said bend it and see. Which he did and let go of it and gave me a nice welt on the side of my face!
