The number of religions depends on your definition of religion and how you count. Some people look at all of Christianity as a single religion. Some divide it into Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Protestant. Others count each denomination as a religion. The same types of divisions can be found in the other major world religions. Classically, the religions are considered to be Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism but that doesn't account for many other groups like animists, Wiccans, Baha'i, Falun Dafa or solo practioners like myself.

There are so many strange closet cults that claim to be religions. Remember the ones that committed suicide and all wore matching Nikes and had $5 folded up in their pockets? They were the ones who killed themselves so they could go ride the tail of the comet.

Really, there are only 2.
Man's religion, which tries to "Buy a stairway to heaven", and earn eternal life;
and God's religion, in which God imparts grace as a free gift to those who believe, through the merits of Christ's atoning work on the cross.
"What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter? If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."
