It all depends, there is more than one.

1) Douey-Rheims - this is the (English translation of) Latin text used by the Holy See.

2) Catholic Edition of the Revised Standard Version - My personal favorite, it is the English Translation of the Greek Septuagint. (Scriptures in Greek).

3) There is the New American Bible - authorized for use by the USCCB, this is the version read by most American Catholics, and used in the Liturgy of the Word at mass in American Catholic Churches. Personally, I cannot abide this "politically corrected" version of the Scriptures.

4) The Jerusalem Bible - I don't know much about this version other than it is a Catholic Bible. It's an older translation. The RSV-CE was first published in the 1950s and the NAB is even newer.

The Church recommends all Catholics read from a "Catholic" Bible. Any of the above four will suffice.

Read the New American Bible or read the Jerusalem Bible. The NAB is used in the Mass.

Looked this up and from what I can tell, the New American Bible is what is endorsed. You can get more information by going to the source listed. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I sure wish people who mean "Roman Catholic" would simply SAY "Roman Catholic".

Being a Catholic, but not of the Roman variety, I have only one motto: "Anything but the NIV!"
