Please. Let's not go all Salem Hysterical.
Um. Friend Karen? Demonology, exorcism and deliverance are absolutely taught in the Catholic Church. You can find it in the Roman Rite, the Cathechism and at least one encyclical that I'm aware of.
Yes. I believe a great multitude of people are in various stages of demonic influence. Possession being a small number. Oppression being slightly larger. Obsession being the largest.
In actuality there has been a great increase in the need for exorcists and deliverance ministry over the last 10 years. So your theory that you don't hear about it is faulty.
In truth though, the devil's greatest trick is convincing people he does not exist. The devil does not want to be known. If people start seeing demons under every bush, they will be far less likely to welcome one in.
Yes, demons must be invited in. But it's not like "knock knock." "Who's there." "Evil demon" "Come on in!"
It's more like - "Oh look, someone left their very expensive sunglasses on this table at this diner. I think I'll keep them." And in walks the demon of greed or the demon of theft.
Fr. Malachi Martin posed the theory that when a fantastic outward manifestation appears, the "target" is not the possessed individual, but the priest. The exorcist.
Such as the famous case "The Exorcist" is based on. After the real exorcism the movie and book were based on, the real priest involved, Fr. Bowdern, was fundamentally involved in desegregation of the Catholic Church.
Segregation is evil. The devil liked it as it was. Since this was the path Fr. Bowdern was on, an attempt was made to tip his faith into despair. To kick him off the path.
Then there are cases which boost the faith of many. Faith in Germany is at an all time low. The case of Anneliese Micheal brought a revival of faith.
But for the most part, demons are subtle. They do little things to make us hate ourselves. To make us hate God. Anything to make us less beautiful in our own eyes so that we might actually believe He could never love us.

Absolutely yes. Many Christians are and have no clue what's going on inside of them. When someone tells you that you need something (a quality perhaps) in you and then it needs to be fed(with prayer, teaching, etc.) don't let them do it. People act and speak out of ignorance even though they mean well. Do not let anyone talk about putting a christian or any other religious quality in you! When Jesus said these come out only by prayer and fasting, the kind of fasting He was talking about was breaking contact with the one who is feeding this "newly created spirit" in a person. It could be a preacher, a teacher, a family member, anyone. They don't realize what they've done to you. They believe they are doing right by putting good things in you. This is difficult to fully explain in such a limited space. I do speak from experience.

Get real those people were just crazy!
We have a lot of crazy people in the world.
Seems most of them follow one religion or another that teaches ideas of hate those different then you and of course world wide destruction! Oh and let's not forget the high glee these folks seem to take at the idea of people not beliving as they do being burned alive FOREVER!
What is the solution? End religion and these wack jobs have to find some other means by which to express their mental illness other then an all powerful man that NO ONE CAN SEE! That hates anyone NOT LIKE THEM!

I agree. I had asked a similar question earlier and did not get the response I wanted. The community picked an answer I would never choose. Demon possession is something even mainstream Christians never consider. It is not taught in most churches not even the catholic. I feel depression overtakes some people that is not actually a chemical imbalance and makes people do things they would not normally do. I think this is demon possession. The young man who killed all of those students at VT, was probably possessed.

It sure would be nice to have something as convenient as spirits and demons to blame for all that is wrong in this world. Unfortunately, the answer is much more complex and much more OUR responsibility. Did Jesus cast out demons? That's for biblical scholars and theologians to debate. In our world there is no need to see dark forces acting in our world; people are bad enough due to the sociological and psychological forces that motivate our behavior.
I applaud your obvious faith. I understand your need to blame ouija boards and such as signs of dark influence in the world. However, if you look at the economic injustices, the prejudice and discrimination that harm others, and at the narrow minded judgementality of so many, then perhaps you may find the human forces that are so harmful to ourselves and those around us.
There are no witches with any magical power. There are no demons lurking around corners waiting to possess unwary idiots who play at moronic supernatural games. What there is are people who are hurt, scared, hungry, homeless, mentally ill, emotionall disturbed, desperately lonely in their final years, and so on and so on.
Instead of worrying about the dark forces, become a force of light and life in the world. Spread love and caring and acceptance. Perhaps then the dark will no longer be such a worry to you.

people are possesed and they don't know it, there are leaders in the church who are possesed and no one can see it. That is why you must listen to god and research and learn the facts before just doing what some possessed person tells you to. Beware false prophets and any who would manipulate you.
The real pretenders will not be so obvious as children playing with the occult. They will pretend to be your friend and try to take your money, they will shame and guilt you into agreeing with things you don't agree with. This is why you must know yourself and trust god to show you, not me and not a false preacher.

Mumbo Jumbo!
People are too confused these days. Maybe its the fat stomachs and too many materialistic things that has made people loose their minds.
Baking their own home made mumbo jumbo religions out of all kind of crap.
Wake up! Stick to religion and not mumbo jumbo!
And listen to the words of Christ, not some demon lies.

You need to quit reading all that church propaganda from the dark ages. I am Wiccan and I practice witchcraft as a part of my religion. I am NOT possessed by anything other than a love of nature and my god and goddess. Please get a life.
