Uhhh...yeah. I'm a manager and it really is not a great sight to see when someone comes in for an interview with tattoos! However, I do have tattoos...lots of them! I keep them covered while I;m at work.
Overall, yes it will hurt your chance at getting a good job.

Unfortunately in most cases it will keep you from getting hired. It also depends on where the tattoo is, what it's of, all those details. Cover them during the interview and then ask about their tattoo policies. If you are very affectionate towards tattoos and the place doesn't allow them, chances are it's a place you don't want to be working at anyway.

Yeah, wear clothing that will cover them up during the interview, or at least until you know what their policy is on tattoos. It depends on the company you will be working for. Obviously if you are working for a tattoo shop, it'll be okay, but if you are applying at a place where image is very important, then tattoo could be something they aren't looking for. I'm not saying people who have tattoos can't do a good job or can't look good. I have tattoos too. But people sometimes see tattoos as a bad connotation.

It can also depend on the industry you are looking for a job in, and the position you are going for. For example, if you are going for the hospitality industry, front of house with the customers, tattoos usually arent a good thing, but if you are going for back of house eg kitchen, it wont matter how tattooed you are unless the manager is really conservative. It really does depend on whether you are going to be exposed to the public, or out of sight.

I work in an upmarket bar and hotel, my manager isnt the conservative type, a few of us have facial piercings, and as long as they are small tasteful studs, she doesnt mind, same with tattoos on show, but if someone has a large, forearm sleeve, it has to be covered, but a small, almost plain tattoo, on a nondescript part of the body its fine.

If you are looking for a high paid corporate job, cover it, tattoos and piercings dont matter as much any more, due to the popularity of them with the people coming of age to enter the work force, but there are still some conservative people out there who are opinionated about tattoos. I dont know why as a large tattoo usually costs a bit of money to have done and does take a fair bit of commitment to follow thru and have finished, so you would think that it would be a good thing, but its still not, maybe in 20 years, it wont matter at all.

Depends on the type of job you are looking for. When the person conducting the interview asks if you have questions ask about the tatoos. I would also do research into the company's dress code policy before the interview. I would think that if you are the most qualified candidate and they didnt hire you because of a little ink, that might be discrimination, especially if there isnt anything in the dress code about having them.

Well i like tattoos and I know many people are still old style and stereotype tattoos, I had a friend who got a job in a restaurant as a server and for his interview he hid his tattoos on his arms, and when he go the job and the manager saw them she said if she had seen them she wouldn't of hired him, and that was only in a sports restaurant.

Depends, I work at a hospital with a guy and they make him wear a long sleeve shirt under his scrubs to cover his forearms. But, if they are somewhere like your neck, not sure. Depends on the job. A lot of employeers (the professional/corporate type) will not even consider you. The quality of job is what is most likely hurt.

Yes.
If I were doing the hiring, and 2 people had the same qualifications but one had tattoos showing-----I'd hire the unmarked candidate.

Like it or not, tattoos send a message..usually not a good one. And businesses want people representing them who are well-groomed, clean cut, and NOT tattooed or pierced.
If you want to cover your body with tattoos, that's your business. But don't cry about it if you can't get a high-paying job BECAUSE of it.

It would depend on the type of job and the company. But there is a good chance of it causing a problem.

a lot of places will not hire you if the tattoos are visible or if you have multiple piercings or piercings other than ears. My advice- don't work there. Or cover what you can. They think their customers would be shocked and offended and that's the bottom line- it's their business and their money.
