Well, that would depend on the situation. Sure, you can reach out and whack someone from afar with, say, an M40. But the last weapon you want to have in close quarters combat is a bolt-action rifle. An M16 would probably do just fine out to 200, 250 yards. Beyond that, I would prefer a M40. For close quarters combat, a .45 would suffice.

The sks way more dependable then the ar and even though it fires the same round a little softer recoil then the ak.Also for me I've always been more accurate with the sks.

I have a favorite .22. It's over 50 years old and probably has over 100,000 rounds through it, but I can still shoot a 3/8" group at 100 yards with it.

For a pistol my choice would be -
9mm "Broomhandle" Mauser Pistol
For a sub-machine gun, it would be the -
9mm Schmeisser MP40.
Both are great collector items.

FN FAL. Best .308 ever made. Highly accurate, powerful, reliable and can be modified from a close quarters combat rifle (DSA OSW) to a full on sniper rifle.
