Tithing was a Jewish law so that the Jews could take care of their temple and the Levites inheritance. Jesus taught give and it shall be given Paul taught to administer financial help to your spiritual leaders and also that Whatsoever an man purpose in his own heart so let them give! I'm tired of preachers lying and saying that God requires this of you or you will be cursed! Give me a break! If they need financial help just ask but don't manipulate people by misusing scripture!

You don't need give tithe. Even Jueus and several of his disciples needn't give tithes under the Law of Moses.
If you read Leviticus 27:30-33, you will find that only food products (not Money) were tithable. That's why Jueus (son of a carpenter) and most of his disciples (fishers) needn't give tithes. If you read Deuteronomy 14:22-29, you will find that the tithes were supposed to be shared with the poor and be eaten up by you, your family members, the poor and the Levite before the Lord's place. The God shows his love under the Law of Tithing.
After Jesus died for us on the cross, we are freed from the Law of Moses, and also the Law of Tithing. For today, we give under our own will, and don't need tithing.
Some churches forces Christians to pay tithes of all their income. This rule doesn't come out from the Scripture (they tries their best to hide the God's ture meaning about tithing) or the Lord, but from their own greedy. They are the one who rob the God, the love of the God.

Tithing is definitely old covenant law, and giving cheerfully is definitely new covenant. Understanding the times in which they lived, and the times in which WE live, is paramount. From 30-70AD, when the new testament letters were written, both covenants existed together! Most people don't realize this, but the old covenant was not abolished entirely until the Temple was destroyed by Roman invasion in 70AD. This was the whole purpose of the Parousia of Christ, to finish what was started at the cross. This 40 year period was foreshadowed by the old covenant wilderness wandering. Even though Moses set the hebrew slaves free, they had to wait 40 years before entering the Promised Land. In the same way, Christ set the captives free at the cross, but the fullness of the new covenant promise could not be realized until the old was taken away, 40 years later. (See Hebrews - amazing study!) Additional Details: No one has all truth. We must be patient with one another as we learn more and God reveals things to our heart. We can't possibly understand everything there is to know all at once. But a good place to start is principles of interpretation found in Biblical Hermeneutics. This should be the first thing we learn, and yet it is often one of the last.

No, tithing start with Abraham before he was considered a Jew. He was out of Ur of the Chaldeans. Of course, Abraham gave his tithe to King Melchizedek. But God said concerning Abraham, That I has chosen him because I know that he will teach his descendants to do what is right (that's not word for word), but that also included tithing. Because Issac, Jacob also offered tithes before the Law of Moses was in effect. So tithing was not just a issue of the Law, but it was in effect before the Law existed and there was no temple take care of. Those who are the seed of Abraham by faith will do the things Abraham did. The Lord Jesus Himself said in John 8:39,"...........If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham". Of course, we know it is not your Jewish lineage which makes you the children of Abraham, but the fact you became children of God by faith.

I kind of have a problem with this too. So many preachers on TV ask for money, love donations and money for the poor. After what the Bakers were doing with the money they received I will not send money to TV evangelist. I want to know where my money is going.
As a christian I do feel compelled to give 10% of my earnings and I do, but at times I will give a sum of money to a needy family instead. I could be wrong in doing this but I think Jesus wants us to help the needy.

True, it was the moral responsibility of the eleven (11) Tribes of Israel to pay ten per cent (10 % ) to the Tribe of Levy, as they were the leaders of the Synagogue and Nation of Hebrew. But, to the Gentiles, Jesus said that it was better to give what is in your heart. Even in today's society, church's need capital to operate. It is greater to give, then to receive.........God Bless America !!
