i'm 18,and still receive a benefit check from the government every month,they may cut this year ater i graduate, some ppl told me that i can't open a bank account, because when i give my social security number the government will stop sending me checks, is it true, i just bought a visa prepaid card, but i have to give them my social security number to activate it, i'm afraid that the government may say that i no longer qualify for benefit checks, please ppl tell me the truth.

If you receive a benefit check that was supposed to stop when you reach the age of 18, the government will be after you for the overpayment.

If that is the case, you now owe the government and it would be in your best interests to stop the benefits now before the overpayments add up to a larger amount.

Government debt never goes away until you pay or they seize and sell whatever you own. The government can easily seize "anything" you now own or will own in the future.

edit+++++++

Sorry, misunderstood that they extended your checks and it wasn't a glitch in their system that you were still receiving the checks.

Just because you receive the benefits checks does not mean you cannot have a bank account.

Many people who receive government checks, whether the checks are for a welfare program or a social security program, have bank accounts where they can deposit their government checks.

First, you really got to chill...you come here looking for help?

First, it will depend on what the reason is you are getting benefits. But since you already know they will cut you off at graduation....

You do not automatically lose benefits when you have a bank account. They actually prefer you have one, so they can automatically deposit your benefits directly into it, eliminating check processing.

Most likely you will soon get a "re-qualification" form that must be filled out. If you are still in school you will need to submit proof. If you feel you should still qualify for benefits, you will need to supply supporting evidence.

Otherwise you will lose benefits automatically.

Whatever you do, DO NOT I repeat DO NOT mess around with the Government. Once you do, you will be sorry for an awful long time. They are relentless when they catch up with you.
