To stop global warming we need to be more energy efficient, primarily. By being energy efficient and getting more work for less power (compared to now) we can reduce greenhouse gas (CO2, NOx, and SOx) emissions and potentially reverse the effects.

The reason people are pushing energy star appliances and CFLs (compact flourescent lights) is that they use electricity (der!) which comes from power plants which release lots of CO2. That's why buying energy efficient appliances is a good thing.

Also, we should access more renewable energy resources. If North and South Dakota were covered with Wind Turbines (the big wind mills) it would provide enough power to run the US. Same for covering Nevada with solar panels. Also, wave and tide power are possible hydroelectric alternatives. These methods produce virtually NO emissions/green house gasses. You can get little minature working versions of these for your house. I push for these methods more than biomass/biofuel because they're better; tons of emissions are emitted just to grow biofuel.

Another way is to use INSULATION!! By insulating your house better you can save on your heating bill and use electricity. (see paragraph one)

Also, driving an energy efficient car is a good idea. Burning fossil fuels (oil/gas, coal, natural gas) produces tons of CO2. Hybrid cars are a good option as well. Recently Honda built a Hydrogen powered car.

Hydrogen is a good alternative fuel source for reducing emissions. It produces next to no emissions besides water, but it's hard to get. I, personally, beleive this is the fuel of the future.

If you only want to do something REALLY simple, plant a tree. Trees use carbon/CO2 to build their trunks/etc. They could potentially pull thousands of tons of CO2 out of the air.

So, in short:
-use renewable/alternative energy resources
-use energy efficient/energystar appliances
-insulate your home
-USE CFLs (ITS SOOOO EASY!! If every American replaced one incandescent lightbulb in their home with a CFL, it would be like taking off several-odd million cars off the road.)
-plant trees
-carpool if you can help it
-walk if you can help it
-drive an energy efficient car
-plant a tree

19. Buy carbon credits to offset anything else that you just might be doing that you don't know about
20. Become a tree- hugging dirt worshipper that insists the rest of us live like you.
21. Quote movies like 'The Day After Tomorrow' and 'An Inconvenient Truth' like they were actually scientific

One overwhelming certainty that anti-carbon footprint people seem to no longer understand is we are digging up "stored CO2" variety a hundred's of hundreds of thousands of years in the past. This "storage" got here approximately whilst the earth replaced right into a distinctive international, (in case you think of the earth is 6k years previous, then there is not any assisting you). The earth, lots warmer and plant life replaced into lush and extremely great plus the land replaced into moist and swampy, subsequently removing the CO2 from the ambience. rapid froward to approximately 2 million years or extremely much less and we've the visual allure of the 1st hominids that stepped forward on a lots cooler temperate planet. Come even closer to recent time at approximately 25 thousand years in the past (controversial approximately 2 hundred to 100k as quickly as we first mastered hearth) and people commence the race for the domination and spectacular destruction of earth. So certainly we are no longer any distinctive on the instant then our ancestors of that component who have been at conflict with nature and did no longer understand the international around them, so gods have been invented to describe the unexplainable (sound nicely-known?).
