I think that children should be open to hearing adult conversations that are typically G rated. No name callings, bad words, or too personal of information. Kids learn by example and learn how to deliver their speach based on what they hear adults do. Additionally, it is good for children to hear disagreements, as long as they are handled well, b/c they learn that that is normal. However, it is NOT okay for them to hear personal information or conversations that would not be suitable for a stranger on the street to hear. My sister was so open about everything to my nephew, and now, he thinks he's an adult and can say and do as he pleases. And although that is accepted in his own house, it is not at school or in other social situations. He needs to learn respect for others and such and realize that he is not on an adult level. So, the answer to your question i guess is yes, but limited-- as with anything.

Each situation is different.
If they are old enough to understand whats going on then most times it would be ok, especially if it will affect them.
If it's a conversation about daddy screwing the babysitter then no they don't need this on their minds.

In general I keep my kids out of all adult conversations because they like to spread the gossip and they usually horribly mess up what was being said. Also it leads to questions later on that night that your child may not be ready for. Like what is rape, adultery, prostitutes, why would someone kill some one mommy?

I usually let my kids know whats going on but in a filtered version

No adult conversations are for adults and children should not be privileged to them. Sometimes children repeat what they hear and often out of context and it sometimes will result in ugly feelings from others if it is repeated out of context. Children don't have strong listening skills and often get things wrong even with the best of intentions. God Bless.

You mean like sex and other standard adult conversations. To a limit yes. Why does everyone try to hide that stuff from kids. It's only a matter of time before they hear that stuff and get involved with it anyway.

Nope they do not need to hear everything. Especially when it concerns adult situations or financial conversations. It is not their business. I talk to my husband when they go to bed or at school.

I BELIEVE CHILDREN ARE INNOCENT AND SHOULD NEVER BE PUT IN A ADULTS CONVERSATION. GO TO ANOTHER ROOM TO HAVE THE DISCUSSION OR WHAT TIL THE CHILD IS ASLEEP OR NOT IN HEARING DISTANCE

My answer would be no. They are not old enough to handle some adult conversations.

no there are certain things that are above them and certain things that they don't need to know yet. Also really small kids repeat things at the wrong time.
