I'm getting quite a few answers, but only a few have actually answered the above question. A couple people have said they have had misfortune that they "turned around" (true in a sense that we have free will) However, do you know you may have walked or ran into many other bad situations that God "turned you around" the other way to lead you away from that path???

My childhood was not all sunshine and happiness. Not by far.

I stopped believing in a god who always brought unnecessary pain and unjust punishments to my life, used my brain, and turned things around for myself.

Later, while still continuing to use my brain, I realized that all my attempts to "go back" and "find him again" in the spirit of humility were in vain. There was never a shred of evidence that he'd ever been there in the first place. My ardent belief, though sincere, had been entirely on blind faith, and had ended up (without my realizing it) becoming my reason not to have to save myself from terrible situations.

I graduated College at the TOP of my class in Graphics Design Management. Despite being at the TOP, I got NO job offers, not even an interview. The problem isn't with God, it's with my location, but I don't have the money to move to a new location. I spent 2 years searching for a job before finally landing one...AT MCDONALDS as a Dishwasher. I grew up with many friends, but I don't talk to any of them anymore because we all went our separate ways in life. My parents separated about a 2 years ago. God isn't the issue, it's not even YOU, it's called LIFE. If you have an issue that you want resolved, start taking the steps to resolve it, I want to be famous, I'm tired of being poor, I'm sick of being unknown and I have a high disdain for today's Mainstream music. I started a band last year, we've been writing and playing gigs the last 6 months. I didn't wait for God to guide me and tell me where to go and give me my answers. Sometimes, you have to have faith in yourself. Know what you want and start taking the steps to achieve it. I am an Atheist. That's my answer and it is in no way sarcastic.

Ummm, I believe anal rape by a christian priest is not the path to saving a bad childhood. Most people think that is worse than almost any other trauma

I had a crappy childhood but I think life getting better was a result in growing up and getting smarter.

There was one speaker at this BattleCry event I went to. She had a totally screwed life but then the change... it was awesome. I wish I could tell you more. But I forgot. But it was cool.

I had a bad childhood, and then I turned it around.

Someone told me that God helps those that helps themselves,
so I figured if I have to help myself to begin with, who needs God?

So I told him to move along. "Nothing to see here, God."
