Alright my G/F was going a wee bit fast on the highway and it was her first time getting a speeding ticket, she has never been pulled over and the cop decided to give it to her although I can see why on how fast she was going.

She wants to try to fight it since it was her first ticket on her record, is it even worth it I mean would she be better off paying off the ticket, well first off does she have to pay for court cost I believe she does I know shes trying to pay a family friend whos a laywer $400.00 and but then how much would court cost be?

So would she be better off paying off the ticket, and how long will the insurance company take to find out?

In California you can sign up for Traffic School , pay the fine
take the course and the ticket will not show up on her record.

She does not need a lawyer for that.

Don't get a lawyer. It only increases her costs. Tell her to go to court and ask for traffic school. She will still pay the fine and court fees, but traffic school will keep her from getting a point on her driving record. Unless the cop doesn't show up to court it will be pretty hard to get out of.

If this is the first ticket she has ever received, I seriously doubt the fine will be anywhere close to the $400 she is paying the lawyer. Most insurance companies won't increase your rates for 1 speeding ticket. If she was driving fast enough for a $400 fine, I doubt the charge would only be speeding.

You always take it too court. You always fight the ticket. One time I want to court and my ticket got dismissed because the cop didnt even show up to court. The worse thing that can happen is that you have to pay the ticket. I dont know about no court cost when I want to court they reduced the fine and that was the court cost was paying the reduced ticket. You dont have to hire a lawyer but that is her or your choice.

There are all kinds of web sites that describe how to fight a ticket. At the very least, if you want to try to get out of the ticket, you should get a continuance, plead innocent at your arraignment and schedule a court date as far in the future as they will allow. Usually, the cop who wrote the citation will be asked to come in on his day off to testify. If he doesn't show up, which often happens, your G/F's case will be dismissed. Make sure she has some sort of lame brained defense planned before showing up, or she'll piss off the judge.

Yes....you'll be able to additionally contest a radar or laser price tag. However, your possibilities of combating it are narrow. If it's you vs the cop, the pass judgement on will pass at the assumption the cop has no motive to lie however you do. YOU desire to get out of the price tag, now not pay the first-class and now not get the facets. If you base your safety at the cop telling a lie for a few unknown motive, your possibilities of successful are approximately 0. You will must combat it at the assumption the cop made an blunders in calculating the velocity. Since you're asking approximately non-radar/laser ways, sure there are different ways that can be utilized. If the cop pulled up at the back of you for your blind spot after which matched your velocity, studying his CERTIFIED speedometer, and sees that you simply had been over the prohibit (frequently it should be a exact quantity, comparable to five mph to enable for blunders for your uncertified speedometer) he can provide you price tag centered upon tracked and determined velocity over the prohibit. You will must furnish fair doubt as to the accuracy of the way he did it. IE: Springtime and so they simply switched to summer season tires from their iciness tires. Did they recertify his speedometer? They may use a timer gadget in a few places. The cop can begin one quit watch as you go a distinct mark, then whilst he crosses the identical mark, he begins a moment quit watch. Then whilst you go one more mark, he stops the primary one, and whilst he crosses the identical moment mark, he stops the moment. A laptop then fits the 2 quit watches and the space traveled and is derived up with a velocity in your auto. They even enable in a few places the cop to mark out 1 / 4 mile and he then sits with a quit watch and "clocks' you (that's wherein the time period got here from) as you journey the quarter mile. If the velocity prohibit is 60 mph, he is aware of to move one mile must take you greater than a million minute, and to move 1 / 4 mile, it must take you greater than 15 seconds. If you do it in 10 seconds, he is aware of you had been rushing and once more can provide you a price tag. Pay the price tag and watch your velocity.

In my state, if you get a ticket, it has a summons on it to show up for court. the time, place, date are all on the ticket. DO NOT MAIL IN THE MONEY! GO TO THE COURT DATE!
1) If you go and the cop isn't there, then you can fight it and win because it's her word against his and he isn't there.
2) If you go and there is a lot of people there, the court will settle with you for usually half of the cost of the ticket or less and a reduction in points, if you don't fight the ticket. ( I got a $250 ticket reduced to $50 that way)

that's why a woman should always have a pillow in the car, it the cops pull her over, she puts the pillow under her clothes and pretends she's pregnant and going to the hospital...

unless there was a good reason for speeding (which she would have already mentioned if there was) there is no point fighting it - it will only make things worse (money & stress)
