Good news! The Pope just issued a statement that unbaptised babies MAY not be left to float in limbo for all eternity, out of the sight of God! They MIGHT actually make it to heaven. Isn't that nice?
Remember When Pope John Paul II issued the statement to Africans that condoms were not effective for anything?
How about when PJP II admitted that excommunicating Copernicus was wrong (especially in light of the fact that Copernicus was correct). Does that mean he gets to stop burning in hell, and can ascend to heaven, now?
I suppose now you're going to tell me that the Pope is NOT the Holy Vicar of Christ, and the Voice of God on Earth.
Pah, and you blame the media for distorting Christianity.
One last parting shot... Go to England and France and see the cathedrals with sculptures of Moses, holding the Commandments, with goat horns. You see, the Latin scholars of the day could not decide whether the word Cornus referred to horns or light coming from Moses' head when he came off the mount.
I don't mean to unload like that, and I apologize, but sheesh, man, Christianity doesn't exactly have the best track record. Crusades, anyone? Now President Bush says 'war,' 'God,' and 'sides,' in the same sentence. That makes Christians look real good, huh?

I personally thought that the study was insightful....
Besides, the matter of fact IS that believing you're justified by a higher power has been the driving force behind MUCH of the violence in history. It's merely that Christianity has been the major player in the "news" for the past 2000 years. That does not mean that other religions haven't had their share of "justified violence".
It is also important to note here that I recently read a story on a (now passed) Catholic priest talking of his involvement on the bombing of Nagasaki, and the differences between Christianity in its early stages (first 300 years or so) and what it became after it was Romanised. Prior to that time, he notes, the idea of "just war" was not an aspect of Christianity. They were pacifists and, like the Amish in their recent shooting, did NOT take personal revenge. Perhaps this is what Ghandi meant when he stated that "I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ".
Perhaps if Christians were to stand up and take that stance again, the sheer numbers of them could cause change in the world. I am not saying in any way that Christians are in the majority (they are NOT), but merely that there are enough of them to enact change, were they to come together and actually PRACTICE what Jesus preached about peace, love, understanding, kindness, tolerance, etc. If Christians do not want the liberal media to distort Christianity, they merely have to come together in a movement to become more like Jesus. And I'll be the first to admit that if they were to come together in this way, there wouldn't ONLY be Christians on the side of peace - there are many religions whose base ideals start with peace, and if a big enough number of Christians could come together for this (in constant, not just for a day of peace), they would join you.

The only thing this "study" shows is an obvious bias against the Bible. Would it have been any different than if he had the students exposed to old film footage of Hitler's goon squads raping and killing young jewish women in Austwistz, and the other half only reading about it? I doubt it very much. The results would more likely than not be the same.

Are there no Christian liberals? I think there are some, a lot of them.
It is common to blast the "liberal" media, but that is only done because they are not telling you what YOU believe. Christ was certainly a liberal.
Do you know what a liberal is and what the word means? I don't think so.

Actually that article does make a good point. Societies have propagated many heinous acts based on the idea that God was on their side and that the people who were being oppressed where "evil".

I know what you mean. And I hate how on the History channel and others, they make shows that come out looking like they have some good information about the Bible or something in it, and then after watching it for approximately 2 minutes, you realize that all they are trying to do is distort Christianity and make us look stupid. People need to get better lives...

to ake the news you have to do something bad or have something bad done to you. thus the crazy extreme christians make the news and so do their victims.

Because the media in general is a tool of Satan to undermine God to the secular world. The more foolish he makes us look, the less likely anyone will turn to God. I would really think this answer to be self-evident. Problem is the Church doesn't make it hard for them when we constantly bicker and argue amongst ourselves about different points of religion, all the while forgetting that our goal and purpose is to present the Gospel message in love to those who need to hear it, and to continually build each other up to full strength in faith. I wish we would put as much time in that as the other. C'est la vie.
