Does anyone know how to get rid of the dark circles under my eyes?

I've had them for as long as I can remember- but some days they look worse (bigger and darker) than on other days.

I don't know how to get rid of them: is there a cosmetic product for this, or a "natural" method?

I currently wear sunglasses as often as possible to hide them, but I do not want to keep hiding my eyes!

I don't want to cover up the dark circles with makeup, I want to lighten them or make them disappear.

I also don't want to spend more than $10 on a product.

1) Stay hydrated
2)Try lowering your salt intake
3)Apply an eye cream containing vitamin K and retinol. Dark circles may be caused by a deficiency of vitamin K
4)Cucumber juice is essentially cooling and soothing, and it has mild bleaching properties. Apply it daily to your dark circles, and you will see a difference. However, this is not a permanent remedy
5) Try Clinique's preventative eye cream..it's about 30$but you may find a smaller portion for less..(also, remember that it lasts a long time!)
6)Slice one small piece off of a potato, and cut the slice in half. Put each slice under your eyes and leave them under your eyes for 20 minutes.

These circles can be hereditary...can be due to smoking, excessive drinking, poor diet, overexposure to sun, and so on. I tend to get them (as does my mom) when we forget to remove our makeup...now, I buy the baby shampoo (no tears kind) and put some on a wet washcloth and clean off my makeup..It does wonders, and I've noticed an improvement around my eyes!

There are six major types of dark circles. Infra-orbital hollowness(baggy lower lid), tear-trough deformity(a hollow under eye look often with redness), sagging fat( due to old age), hollow upper cheeks(skinny people without much facial fat), vascular(often caused by allergies, sinus problems, or a genetic vascular condition), and finally pigmentation(which is a common concern for those with Middle Eastern ethinicity). To see photos of all these you can go to the step by step guide at http://www.dark-circles.net

The solutions(if not structural) usually are found by making the veins beneath your eyes become smaller, or constrict. Try taking a product such as Claritin D, or another drug with pseudoephedrine for 7-10 and see if that makes an improvement. That will make these veins smaller and reduce the tired-look.

To be completely honest, natural methods are often not effective on those who suffer long-term dark circles. Home-made tricks, like the cold cucumber slices, only work for a short period of time.

There are many causes of dark circles, from age, heredity, allergies, cold or sinus infection, bone structure and glasses which are not so commonly known.

If you would like to apply home remedies to reduce dark circles, here are some of my suggestions:
Buy a box of regular, old fashioned unflavored gelatin (e.g. Knox) from grocery store. Take a small cup or bowl and put in 1 teaspoon of the gelatin mix. Add one tablespoon of boiling water & stir for a minute. Test it on your wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Then, using a cotton ball, pat it under your eyes as you would an eye cream or gel. Go lie down and listen to some music, or take a bath & let it stay on for at least 30 minutes. Then just rinse it off.Gelatin is very high in Vitamin K & Biotin. It will not remove your dark circles on the first application (but you will notice a difference), but if you do it daily for a week, and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance, you should notice a drastic reduction in dark circles.

if you don't want to spend too much money there are a few easy ways of doing this. sleep with a cool gel eye mask at night, exfoliate, and use cucumbers on your eyes daily. I like to take a bath the the cucumbers on my eyes before bed. Simple and a great way to unwind from a busy day.

Dark circles occur for many reasons, they can be from genetics, notice if other people in your family have them.
They can be from lack of sleep, sickness or over sleep.

If you feel like you're not getting enough rest, then you should sleep more and see if that changes the condition of your eyes.

Otherwise, that's what conceilers and foundations are for. Use make up to cover them, powders, cremes etc.
