Each Gandhi quote in this collection abounds in practical wisdom.
A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.

As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world -- that is the myth of the atomic age -- as in being able to remake ourselves.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

God is conscience.

Yes, it is only wisdom that is the bane of peace. Whenever two countries fight each other... it is only a man of spiritual wisdom who can stop the war. Why?

Every wise man knows the secret of life. He truly understands that it is not the body that is governing but our soul atman within the body being the real essence of life. When comes the time to depart... all would be left behind! All riches... all relationships... all material possessions... nothing can be carried forward to the next manifestation. Ultimately one realizes why fight over petty matters... matters over which practically none has control.

In the history of mankind if ever there was peace... it was absolutely attributed to an enlightened soul... a man of wisdom! When Lord Krishna came... peace dawned on Mother Earth. But it was possible after the battle of Mahabharata for adharma had to be uprooted in totality. Subsequently followed Mahavira! The moment Mahavira gained enlightenment at 42 years of age... it was time of absolute peace! Jainism scriptures talk of moments when buffaloes and lions sat together mesmerized by the teachings of Mahavira.

Such is the efficacy of absolute wisdom. None remains a foe... all become partners in justice! Next followed Gautama Buddha... the moment the worth of his teachings spread world over... powerful kings like Ashoka turned to Buddhism. It was peace all over. Small kings surrendered and those equal in power became friends.

During the time of Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed... peace prevailed all over. The collective power of wisdom has no parallel in mankind. Bhagavad Gita is one such scripture in Hinduism... the knower of which becomes the knower of all. The wisdom of Bhagavad Gita is sufficient to bring world peace. Most people world over are awaiting the advent of Bhagwan Kalki (an Avatar of the present era) who shall bring peace to the world community... even though after world war three has occurred. In conjunction with the development of the Mind, release of the arising of the "self" within the consciousness and the development of proper morality, wisdom is given the freedom to grow and develop.

Develop these characteristic of Mind, Morality and Wisdom then a peaceful consciousness results. These are the characteristics of the Buddhist Noble Eightfold Path.

Following this methodology is the Buddhist way of achieving this goal.

Peace from a Buddhist....

Ecclesiastes 1:18 For with much wisdom comes much sorrow ; the more the knowledge, the more the grief.

It depends on the person...if they gain wisdeom and they become arrogant, I don't think that brings peace...however, if part of the wisdom they gain is also humility, then if we all did that we might have peace some day.

Yes, wisdom does bring peace - inner peace. To me, that is the definition... wisdom is that which brings inner peace, to yourself, and to people with whom you associate.

Wisdom also brings sorrow because with wisdom comes the awareness of the suffering and lost potential of other people. Wisdom stirs universal compassion, which creates sorrow. It breaks your heart to love people in an unselfish way, but you still feel at peace with yourself for it. One can be full of peace and still mourn for all the suffering in the world.

Yes, knowledge can make a person proud or arogant, but true wisdom is filled with humility. If a person becomes arogant because of their "wisdom" then they cease to be wise.

How many wise people do you know? How many actually have the wisdom, or will use it for any good purpose?

Why would things change now, is man better now than he ever was?. I dont think so...Sorry.

What I call true wisdom points to freedom, the freedom that is always free, being this freedom is also peace full being. So yes wisdom does uncover peace, peace can not be gotten from outside, it is basic to all beings. ~ : )

Gandhi's one of my favourite people.

I think your proposition is true.

I'm not sure about mixing politics with spirituality, though, as Mr M. D. G. did.

He was well intentioned, and a man of substance.

Interestingly, watched his cinematic biography only last week.

It's a small world. :-)

The time's probably coming up again for "peaceful resistance".

...And yes, it is founded on wisdom. :-)

Hmmmm.

Wisdom is like everything else if you deal in generalities something will be found to be conflicting. Having said that, generally wisdom and peace are partners. Wisdom cultivates peace, it does not guarantee it.
