"In His image” means we have personalities and power, we can embrace wisdom and knowledge, we recognize justice, and we can love. Our purpose is to glorify our Creator in every word or action.

Hi, I'm a Christian, and your question is not
offending at all -
Some verses, when translated into the English, lose the deeper thought and are
confusing -
What is actually said, per the original manuscripts, is that WE were all made in our OWN images - when you read the verses there is a discussion going on, and those present are God, the Angels and
all of us (our souls were created long, long
before this earth age). We were all in agreement that we should make us to look in the flesh as we do in the spirit. So basically, as you look in your flesh body, you also look in the spiritual body.
As far as gender goes, obviously thats so that we can mate and have offspring; homosexuality does not come from the creations of God, it is an abnormality that either stems from a genetic source or a sociopsychosis of sorts, they still aren't sure except that some of the leading medical experts are leaning more towards
social anxiety, a compulsive disorder of sorts, where the fear to breed is so overwhelming that they compensate by being "gay". I don't know - my expertise is in the Biblical manuscripts and prophecy, but thats what I read this morning on the computer.
Anyway, hope its spring where you are;
it is here in Valley Forge, PA - the guys are at the Park shining up the cannons!!
Have a great day!

Because "God's image and likeness" refers to our spiritual nature, not our physical nature. God has no physical nature. He is pure Spirit. Therefore the only way we can resemble Him is spiritually. The Bible says God first formed the human body from inorganic matter (the "dust of the earth"). It doesn't say how. Some would say by instantaneous creation. Others would say by gradual evolution. In any case, that biological entity was not yet in God's image and likeness. Once the biological being was formed, we are told that God "breathed into it" an immortal soul, moral capacity, and free will - a spiritual nature. At that moment the creature took on God's image, and became human.

I think of Christians' answer to be that human beings have been created suitable and then Adam and Eve disrespected God via ingesting a fruit from the tree of understanding. The human physique's imperfections are no longer reported interior the Bible so they are ignored. So it extremely is secure to assert that Adam and Eve had the common human physique even with ingesting the fruit or no longer... for this reason, technically "created" imperfect so then the two God is imperfect or a suitable god, as is all-powerful, is able to create a less than perfect being for the sake of screwing us throughout (i.e., for his entertainment or another weird and wonderful reason) even with the undeniable fact that yet another concept is that, even with the undeniable fact that all-powerful, a suitable being is actual incapable of becoming something imperfect -- yet pondering how imperfect our universe is, this concept isn't smart so then, if there's a god, he would not care approximately us (or the universe) and all our worshipping and prayers are futile. Why could we - a less than perfect and miniscule creation think of we are significant sufficient for a god to pay any interest to? noticeably on condition that he created us as such? Why could he create us as such interior the 1st place? Why could an omniscient god, who already is acquainted with who's going to Hell and Heaven, placed us by existence besides? noticeably, pondering the aforementioned concept, he's not observing? (And would not might desire to as he's omniscient.) All in all, the assumption of a god to me isn't nicely worth pondering as actual with each and every physique of those questions in recommendations that complicate the subject and coach merely extra so how extremely contradictory and fully puzzling it incredibly is.

Most people have already given the right answer: Christians don't interpret God's "image" to be his physical appearance. But I just wanted to add that this isn't some kind of modern reading of the Bible to deal with the challenge of contemporary science. Christians thought this from the beginning, as you can clearly see in the Church Father Irenaeus (from the 2nd/3rd centuries) who says as much in his book "Against the Heresies." Actually, a little later (middle of the 3rd century, I believe), the Father Origen said (in book 4 of his On First Principles) that its foolish to interpret Genesis 1-3 literally.

You say Christian God, as if there was a difference. God is the same God to all - "I am" God tells us. That said, God is metaphysical, rather than physical. This is why 1) we do not have written testimony as to how Christ looked in actuality; 2) why we have a metaphysical nature as well (soul, spirit, conscience, nature of being other than body). We are not to be anxious about such things, for example, if one were to lose a limb does that mean the "image" is then shattered? Now we look in a mirror dimly, but when we meet God we shall know God for who God is, face to face so-to-speak.

In His image - is not referring to outward appearance - it refers to our heart. We feel HIS feelings..
God is love - we feel love towards others. God is capable of great pity and mercy, forgiveness... so are we. Our feelings of protection for family, community, joy in being with our loved ones... those are ways we are made in His image.
Athiest? - to disbelieve in the existence of God... I think you mean that you are agnostic - one who can't prove the existance of God... If you draw a circle on a piece of paper, and let's say that this circle represents all knowledge - on every subject from gardening to art, to physics, history, knitting, woodwork, cooking, astronomy etc.. all knowledge... not make a mark on that circle to represent how much of all the knowledge you personally know... If you are like most of us, you would have to put no more that a dot within that circle... so, if we know only a small, small fraction of all knowledge, then isn't it possible that God exists, outside our sphere of knowledge? If you concede God is then possible, you are Agnostic..
Can I make a suggestion - there is a way to know God... the bible says 'be still and know that I am God' - people these days are not 'still' - we reach God by prayer - talking to Him and then asking Him to speak to us... wait long enough to hear what thoughts come to mind... your conscience, that is another way God speaks to us, and also through the bible, through nature and a billion other ways - through people, through song... and it isn't blind faith as many believe - God says (sorry I don't know the reference)... taste and SEE that God is good - all throughout the bible people have asked God to reveal Himself - give them a sign... and if you really want to know if there is a God - you can pray to Him, and ask for a sign... but there is a risk to this - once you get your sign, and you will if you are sincerely seeking Him - then your life will have to change... from my own experience, I can say that any changes I have had to make (a lot!) have been worth their weight in gold...

Man was CREATED in God's image, male and female. As God is a multiple entity (a Trinity), so man is a multiple entity (marriage is the union between a man and a woman that makes two people one entity). However, the ideal that was created by God doesn't exist anymore. Man rejected God and Fell, and with that Fall came all sorts of perversions of what God created, and this not without intent. It was God's purpose to make sin as absolutely sinful as it can get so that He could redeem us from sin so that His grace might be known in its full measure.

What does it mean to be created “in God’s image”? Simply this: Man was made in the likeness of God, having godly attributes—such as justice, wisdom, and love—that set him apart from animals. (Compare Colossians 3:9, 10.) These qualities gave him the ability to choose to do good or bad, making him a free moral agent. There was no sin in the first man, no evil or suffering in his life, when he was created.

Because an image isn't a perfect copy, but something that shares some likeness to the original. The only way the bible specifies how we are like God in that "male and female He created them".
