DONT DO IT. I am a big Ford fan... and a proud owner of an 85 Bronco that I've had for 10 years. I also have a 99 F150... that has been through 3 transmissions in 120K. In comparison I have a Dodge Van with 235,000 miles on it, and everything is original under the hood except the water pump and a few belts and hoses. Ford's quality and durability is really suffering lately, and they don't make a "truck" anymore. I would look at the new full size Toyota, it appears to be a great truck, and the reviews I've read so far are all good. GM makes a good truck as well, I hate to admit it but I like the new 4-door Chevy truck my father-in law just bought a lot better than I do my truck or some of the newer Fords I've seen lately.
You said you weren't going the minivan route. We're the same way, but with 4 kids we had to have a 3rd row seat. We bought a Durango, 3rd row seat standard... with the 5.9L (360 cid) V-8. It towes great, and has plenty of room for all of us... just a thought.
EDIT: Ha ha... looks like I ruffled some Ford feathers. Listen, I drive Fords, I work on Fords, heck I even help out on some Ford repair forumns. And I'm telling you the 99 I have and the 03 my father-in-law just traded in have been real lemons. I've had 2 tranny's die, the heater core had to be replaced before it even made 100,000 miles, and it was re-called for the cruise control starting fires. My father-in-laws truck 4.6L motor had all kinds of issues, especially with running lean and knocking. It was always in and out of the shop trying to get that fixed. Sometimes when we would go riding it would barely pull itself down the road with a small trailer and a couple of 4-wheelers behind it. And the vacuum solenoid that engages the 4 wheel drive went out on it once, got him stuck because he didn't know it wasn't working.
It's the lack of quality and service that has caused even my brand loyalties to waiver. Ford stopped making trucks when the stopped making the 4.9L I-6's and manual tranny's available in the F-150's. The F-150 is a glorified grocery getter. If you want a real truck that's dependable... buy something else.

They all have their flaws. Ford went to overhead cam motors and chevy still has pushrod motors and i think is the only motor company that is still using a pushrod motor. Overhead cam motors have less friction due to a few less moving parts than a push rod motors freeing up some horse power. But the old chevy push rod motors still hold their own. I think all the new body styles are stupid Ford and Chevy. They are clearly not designed the get good air flow down the road. They are more similar to square boxes. I think the best ford design was the 98 body style it was most airodynamic. I like the 88-98 chevy body style and the next style after that . Im not sure when the next style ended though. Dodge and Toyota have the best looking bodies on the road right now. If you want a real truck these days you better just go with a Tundra

I did a side-by-side comparison for you. Mostly so you could compare the cab dimensions between the Ford-Dodge-Chevy & toyota. I used the 4X4's in this comparison & the long-bed option (if available) & I tried to use comparable trim levels. Once you view it you can change options & trim levels, if you wish.

Did you know that the Ford F-Series pick-up truck has been the best selling truck for 30 consecutive years ?
If you would like to take a closer look at the reasons why....
http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/f150/truth/
The above video is from '06, so the information contained about the Silverado & the Tundra will not be accurate, as both were redesigned for '07. But I think you'll understand why both of them redesigned. Especially where the Toyota frame was concerned, although Toyota went with a fully boxed frame on the '07 (not sure where they got the idea..., maybe from this video..) their cross member supports are merely bolted to the frame , so they didn't take the entire 'frame strength idea' seriously.
This is Fords idea of frame strength:
****(copied from Fords website)****
Ford tough begins here, with the strongest frame in its class, a frame proven to stand up to the biggest jobs time and time again. The crossmembers that form the ladder-type construction of the frame pass through both sides of the fully boxed frame rail and are welded to both the inner and outer edges. That's not tough. That's Ford tough.
****(end copy)****
If you still want to know more about the F150, here is the home page:
http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/f150/index.asp
from there you can actually price it out the way you want it, calculate payments, find one at a dealer near you & arrange for a test drive.
By the way Ford Credit is offering 0% financing (60 months) right now, at least in my region (Chicago), I don't know if Hawaii is on the same program.
I hope this helps.

No recalls on the 2007 f-150s none on the 2006s except certain early 2006s that had recalls for the instrument cluster (a reprogram of the instrument cluster) and one for someone is Mexico forgetting to put grease in the wiper motor.
Your best bet for size and such is to compare with a comparison tool online for help such as :
http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/comparison/select.html;_ylt=AjTkq1L4IpfO6K_k3rEB_QMEc78F
The chevrolets for 2007 haven't heard any issues with like the Fords. Only major complaints I've heard about the Dodges other than the recalls is the gas mileage...
But I own a f-150, and am a professional mechanic. Other than water getting in a light and maintaince, haven't had any issues...

Ford had top Chevy, Toyota, and Dodge last year. That was out of all of the vehicles sold. Also Ford has 0% for 60months on F-150's. That only goes to people who have good credit. Which you do. That intrest rate goes toward all of the F-150's. Also on the 0% you do not get the rebates. The dealership that I work at we have 6000 off on our supercabs and crews. If you take the 0% it would be cheaper then taking the rebate. At the dealership we show both. One payment with 0% and one with the rebates. People always take the 0%. Also your payments may be between 249-425 per month. Supercab rear seat-back angle is a comfortable 21 degrees, similar to the typical front-seat angle.

I have a 1986 F350 Quadcab,diesel, longbed, dually.
It has more than enough room for my son and wife.
although, a little spartan in the creature comforts (which will be taken care of as soon as I start work again)
The newer models seem to have as much room as my old truck, (with better creature comforts and fuel mileage)
I wished Ford still offered the diesel in the F150....
That was the perfect size for me!

owning an f-150 supercrew and being an ASE master tech, I can tell you that Ford Trucks have very few problems and have ample room in the cab, the beds are small but useful unless you want to haul lumber or couches etc. get the 4.6 v8, best value in performance and maintenance costs.

don't trade it in, you'll have many more problems w/ the fords + much more expensive parts and services. I swore once i could drive, that i would never own a ford, unless it was a Shelby Mustang GT 500, AND THAT IS IT. I love dodge's don't give in to the fords. Is the dodge still under warranty?. I get my 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 fixed for $0 because it was under warranty. i had a heater core go out. i took my truck to the dealer, and they had it fixed the next day @ no cost whatsoever. what are the problems w/ your truck, that got recalled.
Everyone i know that has one like yours hasn't had a single problem w/ theirs and they use them constantly, for construction, and they have their truck working hard very often , towing equipment, trailers, and lots of othe stuff in the heat of the summer. A trade i would suggestding is a trade in for a ! Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab! They have tons of room, especially for your kids in their car seats. The mega cab has more spce behind the seat, and more foot room infront of the rear seat.
Go try one out, put the kids in and see how you like it and see if they fit well. and definately don't go w/ a suv you'd be fine w/ a truck like i suggested, plus like you said you need the bed room for stuff.

I'd look at Ford and Chevy if i were you. I own a chevy and it's been great. All their engines are very well built and durable. And I've heard that ford is good too. You should test drive both, and decide for yourself.
