My parents make comments about how I do not spend money. They say that I should be spending more money on myself on vacations, clothes, etc. I don't spend according to my earning power according to them.

My mom says I don't dress like I should for my job. I work as an Accountant.

I feel bad about their comments. I am looking for my own place to live. I am looking for a permanent job and when that finalizes (it should be soon), I will move out.

In the meantime, how do I deal with their comments? I try not to tell them too much about my interviews, etc because they question me about the company, etc.

Any suggestions...

Just don't let her get to you. My whole family tells me how I'm cheap and don't spend money. I try to explain to them I'm saving up for college and other things in the future, but they don't care. They still call me cheap. As for your job, simple slacks and a nice dress shirt should be fine when working as an accountant. Your mom shouldn't be telling you what to wear.

Don't fret about their comments, just ignore them. If you let her comments get to you, it's just going to bother you even more. If she keeps giving you comments like that, ignore her and walk away. You could also tell her that you don't care what her comments are, this is your life and you want to live it your way.

Yes you need to live elsewhere and once that happens you will be fine. You are frugal and there is nothing wrong with that especially since you are saving to buy your own place. ( Although there is something to dressing for success in the workplace for advancement)
But meanwhile, try to understand that they love you and want the best for you and try to ignore the comments as hard as it is. You are wise not to tell too much about interviews etc. Try to find subject they are interested in like sports, gardening, travel...that is neutral.

Sounds to me like they are trying to give you constructive advise. Maybe you should think about what they are saying, it may have some merit. Remember that they have a LOT more experience with life than you do. I wish I had listened more to my parents when I was young.

Tell them ok fine, you will spend all of your money like crazy, quit your job and live with them the rest of your life. And you're not going to worry about clothing, you'll just wear their clothes.

You see, I would be glad if my mom could be this honest with me. At least I would know that there is no hidden message because all she says is for my own good.

Ignore them like I do. Don't let it get to you.
