If you believe in the God of the Holy Bible and that His son, Jesus Christ died on the cross for our not being perfect (for our sins) and rose from the dead 3 days later, then the part about many people being separated from God (going to hell) for eternity, that part isn't good news (the part about people being lost). The Good News is we have a choice, God gave us free will to chose whether to follow Him and accept Jesus as Our Lord and Savior or follow the ways of the world which leads to eternal separation from God. If you believe in the One True God above then you would look at it like this: If not for God, who created everything (including me and even created me in His image), we would not even be in existence and have a choice of Heaven or Hell. The Good News is that God sacrificed His only sinless, Holy Son, who died for us by means of one of the most terrible ways of execution known to mankind, He was crucified. Knowing we would not even have been created and able to ask questions such as yours means there is hope and salvation for all who believe in Jesus. In most countries there are laws, rules and regulations you must go by to live there. If you were born in a communist country or born into slavery that would be all you knew. But suppose a leader were to rise up in that country that has it's people suppressed and sacrifices, devotes, his entire life to changing things, setting the captives free. That my friend would be considered Good News in my book. When Jesus came to earth, lived like me, died for me and rose from the dead, He freed the captives of this planet. It is an assumption that almost everyone that ever lived will go to hell and in that assumption I don't think the mighty power of the Resurrected Christ was factored in. With the power to raise from the dead, I think the possibility of there being more going to heaven than to hell sounds more plausible. God and all of heaven rejoice when one person excepts Jesus as Lord and Savior. God and all of heaven weep when someone who is lost dies. It is God’s will that none should perish, but all shall have eternal life. The Good News? Picture yourself drowning in the ocean with no hope of survival, then out of the blue you see a rescue Helicopter heading your way and it tosses a life preserver down to you and someone lifts you up out of the water and saves you from drowning. Jesus is the live preserver, the one who when we thought that when we die we are dead and that’s it, we cease to exist. He comes to us; He is the One that can rescue all who will just grab that life preserver.
Now if you don’t believe in the God I just spoke of, then of course you would not even believe in hell, so why would there be a need for someone to rescue us. Why would there be a need to ask the question.
We are here because God made us, He didn’t have to sacrifice Jesus on the cross, but He loved us so much He made the ultimate sacrifice. He could have just looked down on all the wars, death, destruction and immoral behavior of humans and thought this mess not worth saving. I’ll just destroy everything and start from scratch. But He didn’t, and that is The Good News.

Gospel is Greek for "good news." The good news is that God came to earth as a man to die for your sins so that you don't have to. Yes, we all die a physical death-I'm talking about a second spiritual death. Thus, if you believe that Jesus Christ died in your stead, then God upon your death and at judgment sees Christ's perfection instead of your sin. This is called Justification. Jesus redeemed you. He took your punishment upon Himself cause He loved mankind and purchased you so to speak. Before Jesus arrived, people only had hope that a Messiah or Savior would come. Thus, physical death seemed the end of the end! Now people who won't or don't accept Jesus' death have no way to get to Heaven cause no one can be good enough to get to Heaven. That leaves Hell or eternal separation from God.

Because the "bad news" would be that all of us would be going to hell, which what we deserve. Instead, God has provided us a way to avoid that end.

That is not the good news and a flawed view of the truth.
I don't believe that way, some people try to use God as a weapon but My God is not a weapon to be wielded by any man.

I'm guessing it's because there's some Really Really Awful, No-Good, Bad News that they haven't broken to us yet.
And frankly, if that's the case, then I'd prefer they keep whatever it is to themselves.

Silly squirrel. It's good news for the 'chosen ones' because it will prove once and for all they they really ARE superior to the rest of us.
That is what it's all about isn't it?

I don't know. Who makes these rules, right? The thing I can't figure out is why people who claim they don't believe in such a horrendous place ask so many questions about it. Nervous?
Wrong Sun-we're NOT superior to you or anyone else. It's YOU that has the "We're superior beings with superior intellect; we don't need God or to believe in any "sky-fairies". That seems to be the rallying cry of all you "educated" atheists.
